Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I'm sad :(

My 9 month old daughter has refused to nurse the last couple of days.  I so wanted to nurse her for at least a year.  My son only nursed for 6 weeks and I had to pump till he was a year. I am sad and feel a bit rejected.  I guess I will be pumpimg for at least three more months.

Re: I'm sad :(

  • Sorry to hear that. Your very dedicated to pump that often.

  • I would be sad, too! :(  It sounds like a nursing strike...did you post this on the breastfeeding board? You might get some good advice from some of the ladies there. I haven't dealt with this myself, but I've heard to just keep offering the breast at different times, and sometimes they will come back...

  • It may be a nursing strike, like PP said. Also, my DS nurses so much less often than he did even a few weeks ago, could it be that she just doesn't want  to nurse as often, or is busy using/mastering a new skill? Give her a little time, she might change her mind!

  • Post on the BFing board to see if they have any recommendations. Friday is my last day pumping and while I'm super excited, I've been pumping since 13w, I'm sad.

  • I know how you feel, DD refused to nurse at 3 months! No matter what I tried it didn't help. I was devastated. Although I only lasted 1 month of EP before I was so exhausted I gave up. Hats off to you for making that long with DS#1.
  • I think this is typical around 9 months.  DD did that at 9 months, but my supply got so low from not responding to the pump, that i had to stop nursing all together.  Very sad.  If you have not had supply issues, i'm sure the Breastfeeding board will have good suggestions on getting back on track.  check out kellymom.com too
