Going to work after ER

How long were you out after ER? Just day of? Next day? My boss if pretty flexible and knows I may be out more than just one day if necessary, but I was just hoping to get a sense of what others have done.

Re: Going to work after ER

  • Hey!

I had a hard time, and there is no way I could have gone back until today...which is ironically my transfer day. (My retrieval was 5 days ago.) I was in terrible pain and nauseous, and worried about OHSS. But that is just my experience...it was harder than I expected.

Best wishes you have it EASIER!  Good luck!

First cycle of Clomid created one follicle=BFN Second cycle of Clomid created two follicles=BFN Break cycle= did not ovulate Third cycle of Clomid, 75mg, two follicles=BFN First IUI cycle with Clomid + Follistim=BFN First IVF Cycyle February 2012 Egg Retrieval on 2-14-2012 {13 follicles, 9 fertilized} Embryo Transfer on 2-19-2012 {Two blasts transferred} 6 snowbabies BETA #1 on 2/28 = 186 BETA #2 on 3/1=346 BETA #3 on 3/6 = 2,499 1st ultrasound on 3/13
  • There are lots of ladies who are fine to go to work the next day so that's what I did. Unfortunately I felt awwwwful by the end of the day. Thankfully that was Friday because I would not have been able to go to work for the next two days.

  • There was no way I could have gone to work the next day, but I had mild OHSS both times. I also have a job that i'm literally on my feet for 10-12 hrs so I took the whole week off both times. Everyone is different though and I think alot of it depends on your job and whether or not you can rest or sit... or leave if you feel like crap. Good luck!!

  • i took the day off of my er, and then worked from home the next day.  i had 31 eggs retrieved, and it was a bit painful.  i did feel better the next day, but since i was still sore it was easier to work at home.  i am lucky to have that option.  i think everyone is different, and you should just play it by ear.  i'm glad your boss is flexible.  gl

  • It just depends on how you feel.  My first ER I felt fine and went to work the next day.  This time I felt awful, but the ER fell on the weekend so I had time to recover.  Even if it was during the week, I still would've gone to work the day after.

  • My first ER I was basically in misery until the 4th day and of course had transfer on the 5th day and was back on bedrest. I was hopped up on Vicodin so much that DHwouldnt let me leave the house without a driver and someone to keep me from making any bad decisions.

My second ER I felt awesome by the next day and called up my SIL and confirmed that I could babysit her triplet 2.5 year olds on the Monday after my Saturday retrieval. I overestimated my core strength and how sore I would be (i watch them every week so it was really a case of not judging how well i actually was) and was very glad that I had a driver for the day (so i could take the good meds) and that the kids were fine with playing in the backyard most of the day and didn't need a lot of physical interaction. I was up to walking and shopping but not as much up to lifting and carrying and chasing 35lb kiddos.

That said, I still felt like a million dollars compared to my first retrieval. So it's really a guessing game like so much of this is.

  • After the ER, i was out that day, and the day after. And honestly, i needed it bc even when i went back to work i was bloated and sore. Your body has to really rest up, especially if your going to be getting the ET.
