Liner for 3 week old

DS is almost 3 weeks old, and he's starting to sleep longer stretches at night than during the day.  He can go 3 or 4 hours between feedings at night, and I want to encourage him to sleep as much as possible at night so he'll start STTN early on.

I notice almost every time he wakes up at night his prefold is soaking wet.  I can't help but wonder if he'd sleep longer if he didn't feel the wetness.  I know it's perfectly normal for a baby his age to wake every 3-4 hours at night, but I wonder if I'd limit his ability to sleep longer by not using a liner to wick the moisture away from his skin.

What's y'all's experience with this?  Would it be beneficial to start using a liner at night to make him more comfortable?  Or would it not make a difference until he's older and actually STTN?  What material works best for this purpose?  I have some cotton liners, but I don't know if that would actually keep him dryer or would just add extra absorbancy.

Re: Liner for 3 week old

  • Try a small doubler with a fleese layer on top....or just a fleese liner.  It will give you the "stay dry" feeling you are looking for.  My favs are from GMD.  You can also use wool I think but I have not used it myself.
  • Yeah, you want a fleece liner. If you have a fleece blanket, you can sacrifice it to the cause and just cut up some liners (fleece doesn't fray).

Some babies care, some don't. My son really doesn't care and never has. My friend's son cries the instant he feels wet.

  • Fleece liners will help for sure. And maybe add a doubler to the prefold as well, since they are getting so wet.
