I had my second section about 4 weeks ago and am anxious to start an ab workout such as the 30 day shred. How soon did you/would you start an ab routine? What did you do to ease into it? TIA!
My doc didn't clear me for intense or ab workouts till eight weeks pp. Your body has been through enough, so don't push yourself too hard too fast. I was feelin great by two weeks so I started walking...five weeks pp I was jogging. I took it easy bc I didn't want to take lOnger to heal than necessary. I did wait till eight weeks pp before ab workouts.

I started doing abs about 3 weeks pp. My brother is an OB and I talked it over with him before I had my "real" pp check up. He said that if you were active before and during pregnancy, doing an ab work poses very little risk to you. I felt fine and he told me to go for it. I'm glad I did because my stomach got back to flat really quickly.
I'm having my first section on Weds. I found this on Babyfit and plan to try these exercises to strengthen the core before I go all out with heavy ab work. It says you can start these exercises as soon as you can contract abs without pain:
To the PP who started at 3 weeks, did you have a c-section? If so, that's really encouraging--I want to start ASAP, but I have heard 6-8 weeks is pretty standard.

Yes, I had a c-section. Not sure what to tell you but my brother (an OB/GYN) knows me really well and knows my activity level so I actually trusted him for advice more than the doctor I was seeing. I did a lot of core exercises and ab strengthening exercises at 3 weeks pp. Almost all of the advice I see on these boards are that doctors tell patients to wait 6-8 weeks but for me that was too conservative and after talking it over with my brother he said it's really unlikely (if you're not in pain and feel up to it) that you'd harm anything. I think doctors have to give a lot of advice based on not getting sued and on what would work for a majority of their patients -- a majority of patients may not feel up for doing abs for awhile. I never had any pain. I hope I don't have another c-section but if I do I'm probably going to do this again.

That's awesome! I kind of feel the same way about the 6-8 week guidelines and hope to start sooner. Thanks for the info!
