Cloth Diapering

Petroleum jelly

I assume this is not CD friendly right? My son is battling terrible diaper rash and nothing seems to be working. When it does finally clear up I am looking for a moisture barrier that I can use at each diaper change.

Re: Petroleum jelly

  • Not CD safe.

I use virgin coconut oil. Seems to work, and good for the skin as well as the diapers.

  • I have heard coconut oil as well.  I will say, I used petroleum jelly for both my boys (people didn't say so much about diaper creams back then!) and never had a problem with my pockets.  I do wash with baking soda and vinegar each wash, so was lightly stripping each time I guess.

  • I use the Burt's Bees Baby balm (it looks like Vaseline) but it's some oil I can't remember right now based.

I use BGs and never had an issue with it.

I second the coconut oil.  I use it all the time and haven't had any repelling issues, nor have we had any rash problems.  I love how easy it is to slather on, and how easily it washes off.

Mine was in the "natural foods" section with organic stuff, rather than just with the regular oils, but it's there.
