I originally wanted to get a mosquito net/canopy for over the crib, but then I got to thinking that this could be a potential danger to baby.
What if the net comes loose from the ceiling? It could smother baby...
Also, when baby gets older, she can actually pull on the netting on the side of the crib, which would essentially have it land on top of her...
Am I being too crazy? Have any of you had a net over your baby's crib, or do you plan to get one?
Re: mosquito netting over crib unsafe?
I wouldn't over a young baby, just because of it probably being in the way. I did have one up for my oldest dd when she was in her toddler bed, it lasted a week. The hook was screwed into a joist, so no chance of it somehow coming out, but the ring loop on the canopy broke when she did her best impression of Tarzan. I still haven't put it back up.
You could always do something like this and use curtain tie back hooks (nice ones) and then you don't have to worry about lo reaching the net. I would be more worried when they get mobile about them getting the net and either getting wrapped up or strangled. But mostly, I see it getting pulled down.
