Upstate NY Babies

when do you call the Dr?

Tori has been up pretty much most of the night due to a runny & stuffy nose.  Everytime she couldn't breath from her nose it woke her up, so we let her sleep with us.  At 2:30am she woke us all up by getting sick on us,the bed, herself....we've been up since then & she has not been able to even keep down sips of water.

She is teething, but I think she's got a cold.  I'm guessing that the stomache thing is due to the nasal drip, but I really don't know & she can't tell me anything other then her "tummy is sick" right before she gets sick.   I'm not sure if I should call the ped or wait a little while to see if she starts eating/drinking....

Re: when do you call the Dr?

  • It was on the news that there is a stomach bug going around.  DH had a bunch of people in his department get it.  Could she have picked that up some where?  There probably isn't much the pedi can do but if she isn't able to keep anything down they might want to see her.  GL!! and i hope she feels better soon!

  • I wait and watch.

Fever... is it over 103? really pushing 104?

Is she active in between episodes?

Is she able to take and keep down fluid?

It will pass but in the mean time give plenty of snuggles. My biggest lesson is fluids. We ended up in the hospital because he was dehydrated and it happened really quickly.

Try and give a tsp of water or watered down juice every 2 minutes. If it stays down then you can increase. Even if she throws it back up something is getting in. You can even try to let her suck on an ice cube so it goes in slowly.

  • I would try to avoid dehydration....Pedialyte or  pedialyte popsicles tend to work well in my house../
