February 2012 Moms

Sorry guys, but another question on mucus plugs

So I think I just lost my mucus plug. I know there's really no co-relation between loosing it and going into labor, but my mom lives in MI and we are in DC. I really want her to be here for the birth and she doesnt get in until Wed the 22nd. My DD is Feb 27th. Do you think loosing my plug is a cause to ask her to find an earlier flight? I know its a difficult question to answer! Ughh... wish there was someway to predict this!!!

  • I lost my mp (for the first time-- it regenerated) with my DD when I was about 33 weeks pregnant.  She was born at 40w2d.

Don't have your mom change her flight.

And don't think it's the worst thing ever if she's not there for the birth. As long as she gets to see the baby within the first few days, it will be fine, I promise.

  • Although when you'll go into labor after losing your plug is pretty much unpredictable, I think you'll be fine if your Mom doesn't change her flight. I've been losing mine for days... twice I've had large "hunks", and the rest of the time it's just been little pieces, but enough to be gross. :S

FWIW, I totally understand wanting your Mom to be there for the birth. My Mom is going to be with me and my hubs, just because they are the two people who make me feel the most calm and secure.

  • I've been losing mine pretty consistently since 35 weeks. Mostly after my internals. Lost more last night - but that was after a day of constant cramping. Now I'm back at work this morning feeling totally fine. I would wait until you have active contractions to call your mom. You will probably have a better idea based on contractions.

  • Thanks ladies!! My mom and husband are totally my rocks and I really want both of them to be there. I will probably wait until I start actually getting contractions to have switch her flight. But I did tell her to keep her bags packed in case! :) I am excited/nervous to finally be progressing though!

  • I wouldn't.  If it was tinged pink (bloody show) then I would consider it, but your plain on MP is not a sign of anything.
