Both of mine did that at different times. And both times giving them a blanket to sleep with made them instantly fine. Prior to their mysterious meltdowns they didn't sleep with anything in their cribs, except during naptime when they had those blankets. I hope that's all it takes for you!
Both of mine have "regressed" sleep-wise at one point or another. So long as they weren't sick, we did CIO. I think it works faster the second time around good luck! And to echo pp, ours sleep with blankies and their seahorses that play music and glow.
