Poll: Where do you live?

I have become convinced I live in Pleansantville, so I am just curious where everyone else lives.  I'm starting to feel glad we're moving, because the idea of Pleasantville kind of disturbs me.

Re: Poll: Where do you live?

  • Depends.  What do you consider kalamazoo? LOL  "large college town" doesn't really fit any of them.

  • I had always thought that not living in a large city would make me suicidal...having kids in the city is making me rethink things, though...pleasantville doesn't sound quite so vile anymore now that I'm not  a scenester girl anymore...I'm such a mom.  I might as well live in the suburbs instead of driving 30 minutes to get to target or a mall.

  • I live in the Silicon Valley. It's hard to categorize it. There are several small, medium and large cities within the Bay Area. I live in a large city but there are kind of pockets of communities within the city.
  • I'm in pleasantville's ghetto..total suburbia complete with nice restaurants/malls/parks.....its a great area...but our neighborhood is ghetto for some reason.....I think its mostly because of our WT neighbors....and if we had looked at teh house in teh summer, we probably would not have bought it....we bought it when everything was covered in snow.

I think the suburbs, in general, are great.  I don't mind the lifestyle.  It's this particular suburb.  It's really Pleasantville-ish and I think it's starting to make my brain rot out of my ears.  I feel really sheltered here.  Like that I don't live in reality.

  • Oh and I can see why living on Pleasantville would be disturbing at times. In fact I have been daydreaming lately of living in SF just to be in even less of a suburban environment.

  • I said suburbia, since I live in Westchester, but work in NYC, and that's urban. I think I should have said urban.

Side note, eclaires, I live 15 minutes away from pleasantville, ny!

  • Toledo (the BIG city.....LOL)  I lived outside of Detroit though, that's where I grew up.
  • I voted "other." ?I live in a beach/tourist town. ?Millions of people drive to or through my town in the summer, but we don't even have a grocery store.
  • elcaires-I live near you.  You do live in Pleasantville.  It's really creepy sometimes.  (Don't take offense to that, I'm in Hamilton County too and it's pretty much like that all around here.)

That being said, I think it's a pretty good place to raise kids and I like being near downtown.

We plan to move in a few years anyhow and I hope to move somewhere a little less "perfect," so to speak.

  • It is creepy!  I am totally creeped out by it.  I like it here, a lot, but it's just so weird compared to where I grew up.

MH grew up here (well in Zionsville) so I think sometimes he is even worse than I am because he really has no clue that there is anything else different out there.  It's like the twilight zone here.  Nothing bad happens, everyone is happy with their perfect house and perfect life.  It's so creepy.

It really is a nice place, location and everything though.  Just weird.

  • Urban---It's not NYC but it's definitely more inner city than most of the Metro area.  We are choosing this lifestyle & pay a lot more for a lot less house than if we lived in the burbs.  I just don't like the burbs...I hate tract homes & shopping center after shopping center.  Where we live it's walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars, school, etc, we still have a yard (though small) & are a block from a 330 acre park which has the zoo, a museum, lakes, etc in it.  I consider it the best of both worlds ;o)  Plus DH rides mass transit to work Downtown which is only 1.5 miles away so no long gas guzzling commute either.

  • I live in one of those "planned community" burbs.  I actually love it, we're so spoiled.  But we live in the DC area, so we are NOT sheltered in any way.  Our little town is totally yuppie, but the area itself deals with gangs and a large immigrant population and foreclosures and all the rest of it.
