Tuesday night we decided to put a space heater in Evans room. In the morning his hands are cold and his head also felt cold. We run the cool mist humidifier every night so that makes his room even chillier.
I was nervous about having all of this stuff running in and/or near his room I decided to sleep in the extra bedroom upstairs.
Throughout the night he woke up a few times crying. I got him back to sleep and I had to pee *warning this might be tmi or gross but oh well we do what we have to do* so I decide not to flush the toilet since it was just pee and I didn?t want to risk waking him up. So I guess I got up another time or two throughout the night and peed and again no flushing.
Wednesday morning comes and we get up. Evan had a fully loaded diaper. I took him into the restroom and started to clean him up a bit with a washcloth. Being in a rush i tossed the washcloth in the toilet not thinking.
I then proceeded to flush the toilet and go downstairs with Evan. I take Evan to the in-laws and I come back home and work (I work from home 2 days a week). Fast Forward to 9 hours later i go upstairs and the toilet overflowed. The bathroom is soaked and full of water carpet is soaked, I go downstairs and water is dribbling down the wall into the light switch panel and on and on and on.
Guy comes to house and so much damage. Entire bathroom floor has to get ripped out. All new carpet on top floor and stairs, hallway one first floor needs new hardwood floors, garage ceiling and wall needs to get ripped out, part of our ceiling in hallway needs to be removed to let air get in. I kind of blacked out when he went into the basement so I am not sure what else needs to get fixed.
The killer part is that I was home the entire day and didn't even notice!
Thanks for letting me vent my stupidity.

as i am reading this my eyes kept getting bigger and bigger. wow that sucks.
p.s. i don't flush in the middle of the night either, you aren't the only one
I'm not a middle of the night flusher either. We have a very loud toilet and I don't want to wake anyone.
I can't believe that happen! I don't even know what to say!
DH isn't the slighest bit mad, I couldn't believe it. That is where he is a MUCH better person then I am.
He came home from work and just called me and I could hear things getting ripped up and I almost started to cry b/c that is my house they are tearing up. so sad.

Oh gosh, I would so mad at myself, too. We've made stupid mistakes like this, too, though, so don't beat yourself up (me shoving our down comforter into the washing machine, turning it on and then leaving while it overflowed on the second floor comes to mind...hmm...).
Do you know how much insurance will cover? What a pain in the butt!
Oh, Denise, I'm so sorry! What a day! I hope your home owners will cover it!
And I was totally thinking this was an "I'm going to jail!" post about the dog!!
OMG, I thought you had actually stolen a dog before I opened this post...
Anyway, I'm so sorry this happened and I can completely sympathize. My parents have had plumbing issues in their home for years!!!
