Where did you find your babysitter?

Hi Ladies,

Where did you find your babysitter?  I'm not originally from Texas, so I don't have a lot of family here and I feel kind of weird about letting someone I've met on the internet keep my babies....

Our sitter for date nights is the daughter of a woman who was in my life group at church. She is in high school and has been watching our LO since she was about 9 months old. She is fantastic with her.

I'm in the same boat. I've looked at the online sites a few times but I've never been able to go through with it. I mentioned it at my dental cleaning of all places llast week and my dentist very kindly offered to give me the name of the woman who had cared for his children when they were young. But the problem with her is that she's 79 and DS is 6  months and I just worry that he'd be too much for her, so I haven't called her. The only other thing I've considered is one of the local nanny sites advertised here on the bump seems to have a babysitting option as well, but the pricing seems rather prohibitive-4 hr min each time and a fee paid to the company every time as well as the sitter's fee. So I dont really have any suggestions but I'm definitely curious to see what other responses you get.

I have used the teachers at my daycare. I don't think they are allowed to actually do it. So we have to keep it a secret. And I guess your child would have to be in daycare to use that as a resource, but that is were my best ones I have come from.

Our daycare offers Parents Night Out once a qtr. We have a college neighbor that we use when she's in town and if we're in a real pinch we'll ask a neighbor. Other than that we don't go out. Kinda stinks and I think sitters will be easier to find as my kids get older.

I am a nanny/babysitter and I always went through websites like Care.com or Sittercity.com 

 I live in the Carrollton area and am looking to sit again but now have a 5 month old so I need the right opportunity.

I agree: work with a site that has verified the background of the sitter.  That almost always ensures they are cpr certified, too.  If possible, use people from church.
