First, how are you feeling about Sunday?
Second, OMG what is up with this weather? I've not been stalking the forecast (much) but this hot, then cold, is making me a little nervous.
Third, any chance for a pre- or post-race meetup? I'm not sure I could do brunch after, but I'd at least love to hand out a few high-fives.
Re: **LiveStrong Ladies **
Ehh.. I was fine, but my friends are REALLY competitive! They're stressing me out! "What's your goal? Here's my plan of attack! Here's a spreadsheet where we can calculate our times!" haha. I think I've done a lot more racing in my time, so my strategy is way different than theirs is. Mine is "relax, have fun, and see how you feel after a slower warm up" pretty much.
I want a PR, but I always want a PR. I just wasn't thinking about it in those terms until other people made me. It shouldn't be TOO hard to PR, because my last PR was on a course over here a few months ago that had ~650 ft of climbing (and this one is ~450 from what I hear).. but assumptions like that can be the kiss of death for me.
Hmm.. I haven't checked the Austin weather at all, but I'm planning on packing both colder and warmer running gear just to be prepared. I just hope it doesn't get too warm, I guess.
I'm down for a meetup! Is there a landmark we could pick to meet around the start line? I can tell you I'll be wearing a bright blue Tea mD ell shirt.
Yeah, with the virtual goodie bag thing - typically at packet pickup you get a bag with your shirt and a TON of paper with it. Paper meaning, coupons, advertisements, etc. They're basically just putting all of the coupons and ads online instead of on paper and saving costs and being green and all that.
Races get me pumped up too! All that adrenaline goes a long way!
OF- There are spreadsheets involved? That would stress me out, too. I'm also going with the chill out and have fun approach. I'm going to try not to even think about pace.
Di - Congrats on your first! I think it will be a fun course. Also, I just looked at my virtual bag and it looks like it's just ads for various booths at the expo. Lots of "visit us to enter to win something." Meh.
We could try to meet closer to the capitol area shortly before the line up. Other than that I have no idea about landmarks. I'm not super familiar with the area.
Yes, Chicklit! Spreadsheets! Averaging out every mile's pace to add up to your prediction! I haven't quite looked at it in detail but if you're curious I'll send it on.
I don't usually run with music - especially at races, but I'm pretty much conditioned for that because its not allowed in triathlons. I've learned to have a lot of fun chatting with other runners and heckling the crowd.
You will see LOTS of people running with music, so if it helps you go, use it!
I'm not running this one, but I haaaaaave to have music. People watching only goes so far...
I generally keep my left earbud out in the beginning so that I can hear if people are coming up on my left. It drives me nuts when I'm saying, "On your left!" and the people walking three across w/ their music up don't budge.
Okay. I won't feel like such a beeatch listening to music. Plus I run with one ear bud in and one out during my runs anyway because I run on busy roads, at night and so I try and be aware of what's going on around me.
Sorry to post and run yesterday.
I'll probably be running with music. In other longer races, I've had it but not used it because I was running with a partner or a group and we talked a lot. This time I think I'm flying solo, so I want the music.
Di -- got your number and I'll text when I get down there. I still haven't figured out my strategy for parking and everything. Or if I dare get DH out of bed at 5 a.m. so he can drop me off...
I've volunteered for race for the past 4 years (not this year...boo!)...and SOOO many of the runners have both ear buds in- so go for it!
Good to know. I've always run with for other races but I know that marathons can be a whole different beast with different rules and what not.
