It depends on your history and pregnancy. Because mine is a twin pregnancy, my cervical length is check by ultasound every 2-4 weeks starting at 16 weeks. If you're talking about internal checks in a typical pregnancy, it's usually around 36-37 weeks.

My OB said 36 weeks and weekly after that. I may decline at 36 weeks since the chance of being anywhere near delivery at that point as a FTM is fairly slim.
My first was a couple days ago at 12 weeks. I had a cervical conization due to cancer so I don't have enough cervix for a cerclage so I am getting checked very frequently. I go back a week from today at 13+2 for my next check.
Because of twins I started abdominal u/s cervix checks at 18w. I have had two internals at 31w due to "real contractions" from being super dehydrated from a stomach bug. They shouldn't do internals till you are near the end of your pregnancy because of possible bacteria introduction. They should be able to easily do abdominal measurements at your U/S. Also unless you are high risk for IC besides multiple births, I think if you've had a prior early baby/loss from IC, or a cerclage placed, or the LEEP procedure done. I think they do check at your A/S though at least to get a "reading" if it looks under 3 you would be monitored like a hawk!

For me, internal cervical checks won't happen unless there is a suspected issue or if I am in labor. I don't want internal cervical checks otherwise and my OB practice doesnt do them otherwise because it introduces bacteria into the vagina and doesn't tell you anything. I could be dilated to a 3 for weeks or not dilated at all and have a baby that day. It's not really a good indicator of impending labor. I also don't want my membranes stretched or my water accidentally broken.
