Weird finger nail question

I noticed tonight that DD had a large white spot on her middle fingernail.  On closer examination I realized that her nail was separated (I guess that's what you would call it?) down by the cuticle.  I could catch my nail on the separation, as if it has two layers.  It seems as if it is regrowing underneath the separation.  Which is what I would think is causes the white "bubble"... I guess?

I really have no clue what it is or what caused it...  I'm worried it might cause an infection or might end up ripping off if the separated part gets caught on something.  It doesn't seem to bother her at all and there's no trace of blood.  DH and I can't figure out how in the world she could have done this.  Should I take her to the pedi or just watch for infection/bruising?

Re: Weird finger nail question

  • I had many a black finger nail growing up that would fall off as the new nail grew underneath. White spots on finger nails are bruises. That's how they show up on nails. Is the white spot raised? If its not bothering her is probably let it be. Will she keep a bandaid on? If probably put a bandaid around it to keep it from getting hung on stuff. Or maybe buff it down?
