I thought I bookmarked one of these from the past few months but I guess I was wrong.
2 of our smoke detectors are going through batteries like they are going out of style (sometimes 2 a month) and it's about time we had a professional look at it.
I'm pretty scared about how expensive an electrician can be since funds for this kind of thing are pretty tight, but it's definitely something we can't afford to just let go.
TIA
Re: sorry - electrician recs...again?
Stupid question but are you sure they are hard wired into your home electric? If you are, just purchase new smoke detectors and have them come to install them. Voila. Problem solved and I can almost promise it won't be more than an hour service call. There is no other kind of trouble shooting they're going to be able to do on the older unit. I would guess based on the fact that 2 have failed, it's the culprit.
If they're not hard wired, you just need new smoke detectors. The new ones won't eat batteries.

Thanks!
Taytee - yes, they are definitely hard-wired to the house. We had the FD out here a while ago b/c one of them kept going off for no reason and they confirmed this. We'll try Mr. Electric and see what we can figure out.
Oh, and thanks for the battery disposal link
