what kind of pain meds did they send you home with? I've had several surgeries this year and every time they send me home w/ 30 percocet (sp?) or 30 oxycodone. I was talking with some older women that I know that they were shocked by this. They said back when they were having babies you were sent home with some extra strength tylonol.
I'm just wondering what others experiences have been. I think part of the problem is that we want our doctors to provide 100% pain relieve from moment one. I feel so badly for jamacia bride and her cousin. These drugs are out there and it's no wonder that people become addicted when every doctor hands them out like candy.
I know these drugs serve a purpose but do you think that they are given too often?
Re: If you've had surgery, c-section or otherwise..
I got Darvocet and Mortin. Neither one touched the pain so they called me Vicodin. This was for a c-section. I definitley think mine were needed. There was NO way extra strength tylenol would have come close to what I needed for pain.
Vicodin, Motrin 800, Toradol, Demerol, Percocet, Tylenol 3.
I hate Vicodin. The percs were nice though.
Percocet.
But I don't think it's right to blame the doctors for "handing them out like candy".
What happened to JB's cousin does suck. A lot. But it's our fault for demanding pain meds when we stump our toe.
Me with my littlest.
Percoset and 800 mg Motrin.

darvocet & motrin 800s, enough for about a week or so. I really only needed them for a couple days and stopped taking them after I didn't need them anymore.
I can't imagine only having extra strength tylenol after a c-sec. They tried to give me Tylenol3 with Codeine in the hospital and it does nothing for me. No one should have to be in that kind of pain. It was beyond uncomfortable.
I have had other surgery and not really needed more than a Tylenol3 here and there.
my doctor is the type to prescribe whatever I wanted...and luckily I'm the type that doesn't get addicted to things...cigarettes/alcohol/drugs. I really think some people are prone to be addicted to stuff..some are not.
I went home with 30 percoset and 30 vicoden...still have some leftover. When I had my kidney infection, I got a ton more percoset and vicoden and still have plenty left over. I have gotten plenty of torodol shots for migraines (plenty = 5 or 6 in the past 10 years....just felt like clarifiying). But I've never "craved" it or felt like I "needed" it. I really feel bad for the people that do. I don't think people chose to be addicts.
