Food Allergy

Excema

My 11 week old has had a nasty "rash" for about a month. His doctor prescribed oatmeal baths, Eucerin cream. It was in his diaper area but now it's under his arms, neck, back of knees. We saw another doctor today because the MD thought maybe he had reflux (he doesn't per the u/s) and he said it was Excema. My son is EBF, I had already eliminated dairy because I thought it was contributing to his spitting up (it didn't seem to make a difference). Now I am wondering if I should make other dietary changes. Any advice? I am so overwhelmed.

Re: Excema

  • My daughter had the same issues with the "crevice" eczema.  In my daughter's case, the eczema was caused from me eating foods she was allergic to since it went away as soon as those were eliminated from my diet.

The eczema may or may not be food-related, but I would try cutting out both soy and dairy and seeing if that makes any difference.

  • DDs dairy allergy eczema started at 8 weeks.  It took until she started eating mostly baby food to figure it out.  The doctors kept saying it might be food related but could be weather related or just sensitive skin.  I finally linked it to a dairy allergy after she broke out in hives both times I gave her shredded cheese.  I was really surprised at all the foods that contain dairy.  Butter for some reason really shocked me but DD gets hives as soon as it touches her.  I have also discovered that her peanut allergy results in eczema.  Unfortunately for us, nothing (no creams, lotions, etc) helped the eczema except eliminating the foods.
