Re: PCP/TTC/ATP Wednesday

  • QOTD: What was your favorite thing to do with your family when you were growing up?

  • ATP: Ky has a bit of an attitude and I guess it is her age but man those tantrums are fun. Last night it was over getting out of the car cart at the grocery store. She tried to bite me! We went through a biting phase when she was younger and first getting her teeth. She would lunge for you at any time for no reason. We stopped it...now we are back to it when she gets angry or wants you to let go of her hand or wants something you have etc. And she knows she is going to bite because she says "Bi!" and then leans forward with her mouth open. So she is choosing to bite to get her way. *SIGH*

TTC: 2ww for DW. I am sad that for now at least my time is over and I may never get the joy of being pregnant again but at the same time I am relieved not to have that build up and then big emotional let down every 6 weeks when the drugs do not work. I know for now this is the right choice for our family.

QOTD: When I was school age it was really just my mom, stepdad, and I since my brother choose to stay with my grandparents to finish HS (we moved when he was a freshman and he had difficulty in school so it was better for him to be able to stay in the same smaller district). I was a latch key kid form the age of 8 and spent a lot of time by myself after schhol. My mom worked A LOT (restaurant manager, butterfly I am sure you understand this with J!) and rarely had time to spend with me alone. SO if I got straight A's on my report card my mom would keep me out of school on her day off and we would have a mommy/daughter day. We went shopping, out to eat, whatever I wanted just me and her. This continued until I was a Senior and I had AP classes I could not miss. Those days are some of my most favorite memories, my mom really is my best friend.

  • Jen had her first appointment with our new MFM today, and she's doing great and the babies are doing great. Henry is at 1lb 15 oz and Meg is 1lb 14 oz. They wanted to do their own anatomy scan so all of that was rechecked and is (still) fine. One of the three MFMs in the practice will deliver, along with a second doctor from the hospital, and he said they definitely prefer to try vaginal birth with twins and that we should plan accordingly. I am so relieved that she is safely transplanted, the trip is done and we know exactly who to call and where to go if emergency care becomes necessary. Huge load off my mind. I am happy.

QOTD: Some of my favorite memories are of the huge picnics we used to have in my grandma's backyard. Great food, sunshine, swings, lots of laughing.

  • ATP: Things are status quo around our house. I think E is doing well in school, we'll see what her teacher says when we have her conference in 2 weeks. Last night I took her to dinner for V-day and then her dad came over with a gift for her. It was a late bedtime for her and as I tucked her in I got the best "I love you mommy" and hugs ever.

QOTD: My parents would take us camping and fishing on some rural creeks in Idaho...good times. I also think that the trips we made to stay with my paternal grandparents at their rural Idaho home are some of my favorite memories. As children we dreaded the long drive and grandma's strict rules, but those were some of the best trips ever. In the winter we'd go skiing at the small local hill. In the summer we'd pick huckleberries, go boating and fishing and ride their 4-wheelers all over the countryside.

  • TTC: I had my first ultrasound & b/w appointment with the RE on Monday morning.  The verdict: follicles not ready yet (frankly, I could have told them that), but I'm going to ovulate on my left side, which is the definitely-clear tube (as opposed to the probably-clear tube) -- so I'm happy about that.  Seeing everything on the ultrasound was kind of cool -- it made me feel like it's all real.  There's stuff in there!  The right stuff!  No bad stuff!  In a way, low-tech midwife insems required a certain amount of faith in my body and my charting that I just didn't necessarily have, faith in general not being my strong suit.  Anyway, I'm going back in for another u/s-b/w appointment tomorrow morning, and the RE's guess was that I'd be doing a Saturday IUI.  Come on lucky number 5!

  • I just posted my rant about sperm above, but I thought I'd share on here that pcp is pretty much the same, waiting for hormones to stabilize, looking forward to acupuncture Friday morning, discussing future (mainly career plans), and waiting to start until some yet to be determined time.

My favorite thing to do with family was explore new places, whether traveling or in our area. I hope this will be the same for our kids, as C and I enjoy this as a couple.

  • PCP: C was obsessively reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility this week, and when I asked her why, she admitted she's worried about the 10 day luteal phase on her first month of temping and her fertility.  Since I'd already spent a day worrying and Googling last week, I reassured her we'll try some Vitamin B6 and if her charts show a consistently short luteal phase it's relatively easy to fix and we'll see the doctor.

It made me realize we need to find an OB/GYN who's down with our plans for home insemination, and who we can ask questions of.  There are two LGBT alternative insemination clinics here in Chicago, so I think we'll probably start with one of them.

I also had the fun and exciting job of picking our health insurance plan.  Both available plans define infertility as "12 months of unprotected hetero sex with no conception", so I need to make some calls to find out what ART coverage is for same-sex couples, since according to that definition, we'll never qualify.

Same sex couple TTC with donor sperm.  I am 35 and carrying.  Endometriosis and DOR.
    AMH 0.5, AFC 5-8, FSH 7ish

IVF #1 - antagonist.  Empty follicle syndrome.  1 retrieved, 0 fertilized.
    IVF #2 - antagonist.  Ovulated early.  3 retrieved, 2 fertilized, 0 blasts
