Bugaboo donkey?

Does anybody have this?  I wanted a bugaboo before we were even pregnant, and with twins, the donkey seems like a good option.  It's so expensive, so I know it's definitely a splurge, but I like the bassinets (as opposed to only infant seat snap ins), and I want a side-by-side.  I'd love to know if it's actually worth anything close to what it costs.

  • it's only worth it, if you've got money like that.  but otherwise, no.  It's a great stroller, but no better than other high-end strollers that are in the 700 range.

we almost bought it, but I just couldn't justify spending double the amount of a regular stroller.

What do you use?  I'm having a hard time finding ones that seat infants without the carseat.

  • We bought it, and true it's very pricey for ANY stroller. We found we had a friend at a store who sold it with a very good employee discount, making it comparable to other good double strollers :) You could try that route or ebay, etc.

I came from having an Uppababy Vista for our daugther, which we LOVED. I was really tied to the idea of bassinets, since we used the Vista bassinet quite heavily with our daughter for the first 6 months. I like that the Donkey can fit through a standard doorway in twin mode, and that we can take it out in mono mode with just our daughter, mix and match bassinet and seat, and so on.

We've only been using it in mono mode now (obviously) and I love the little basket on the side. The tires are great if you plan on off-roading of sorts with it, which for us includes walks in the park, over gravel and grass. The ride was smoother than other twin strollers we "test drove," and the quality of the components (fabric, mattresses, seats) seems to be quite good.

Downside is that like many of the heavy-duty twin strollers, it's heavy, so being pregnant I feel like I have to be careful getting it out of the car to set up, and I imagine it will feel that way post-partum for awhile too. And of course the price, which pretty ridiculous.

  • Love it!

However, just keep in mind that you are paying $$ for the Bugaboo name, my Bumbleride is equally as good in all aspects (well, no "sidecar" option), and it's half the price (still not cheap though!)

  • I have one and I love it. Is it expensive? Sure, it was a splurge, but there were a few things that I couldn't find in other options - mostly an all terrain parent facinging stroller. My LOs are in the seats now and I love that they can face me vs facing out in other SBS strollers. They are much happier when they can see me on walks. That, plus the ability to push it through snow makes it worth it for me. I have a different stroller for short car trips.Plus we have to keep it in our living room so I like the way it looks. And while I'm not saying it justifies the high price tag, it is really well made and solid compared to even something like the BJCS. We saved in other areas (ikea cribs, no new nursery furniture, etc).
  • I have a cameleon.  It's the only stroller I used w/ Emerson.  The Donkey didn't come out until the babies were a year old and I couldn't justify two grand and only use it a year  AND I don't live in a city where walking is my main mode of transportation

Many women buy two or three strollers and spend close to what they would spend on the Donkey.  If I were in a big city and only had one stroller, yes, I would get it in a heart beat.

  • I have it.  I will let you know now that when two carseats are attached it makes the stroller so wide it will not fit through normal door ways.  We use the cheap DSAG right now bc of this issue.  Once the babies aren't in their carseats all the time we will use it more but honestly its a big problem....

ps it doesn't adapt to every car seat either, we had to buy the Graco seats which I wasn't crazy about.....anyways its a nice stroller and I'm glad I have it but you can find something less pricey in my opinion....

  • I have it, it's our everyday stroller and love it. There is no other SBS side that has all the same options and it is the narrowest (29") on the market today. I love that I can use my infant carseats (takes Maxi Cosi or Graco) and can position the bassinets and seats either facing forward or backward. There are many times I take one baby to run errands on the weekend and it's great that I can slide the frame down to the single mode and attach the side shopping basket. It fits all our needs with twins.

I live in an very dense urban city and have never had an issue with fitting through doorways, grocery store aisles or restaurants. As PP have said it is heavier, but I am now so used to lifting it, it' not a big deal. I have a Maclaren Twin Techno for travel.

Yes it is pricey, but it will last from the newborn stage to when they are well past being toddlers, and will have great resale value!

  • There are lots of great strollers - i don't think the donkey is so awesome for twins b/c the coolest feature is the single to double - which you don't use THAT much with twins, but would use more if you had an older child + infant.

I'm in love with the Stroll air duo... and the new Phil & Teds that i posted about below.

I do love my BJC Select, too... and love my Valco Trimode twin.

i just freakin' love strollers  :)

the donkey is certainly cool- and makes a statement (I spent $$ on my stroller) but if it's anything like the other Bugs - they are great city strollers and not great for people who are putting in/out of the car every day... i know many people who have bugaboo strollers who wish they didn't b/c they aren't in the city and it's a PITA to put in/out of the car all the time.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

I have the bumble ride indie twin.  You have the option of purchasing bassinets, but I never did.  The seats recline to flat, so I just took out my newborn twins that way.  It also accepts 2 carseats, but if you don't care about that, then no big deal.  The sun shades are also bigger than the bugaboo, which I read are pretty short and not ideal from reviews.  It's also 699 as opposed to 1799.  I've heard good things about baby jogger city mini, if you like side by sides.
