Anyone done a 5k with your LO?

So, I'm turning 30 in June and I want to do a 5k before then...kind of a "bucket list" thing.  Anyway, a lot of the ones in my area don't allow jogging strollers.  The one I really want to do is in May and M will be 11 months old.  Would I be crazy for wearing him during it?  I'm thinking if it's possible to wear him, I can start training with him now so I can get used to it.  Have any of you done this or something similar?  Would you try it or am I totally out of my mind?  I've never done a race, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • I did a 5 miler at the end of November and wore my LO in a front carrier.  I walked the whole thing though, I don't think it would be safe to jog or run while wearing them.

If you are going to run you could make your LO a cheering you on tshirt and have a friend or your SO have them along the route to cheer.

  • Please forgive me for my tone.. but are you kidding? You think it is safe to RUN while wearing your baby for over three miles?

Get a jogging stroller and rock that 5k! ETA.. I see you can't use strollers.. either find another 5K or run by yourself. :)

I've run a 5K and a 5 mile race with M. We have also "run" up to six miles for a training run. I leave her at home with my husband for anything over 6 though.

I understand where you're coming from.  This was my concern.  Since I've never done it, I was just coming looking for someone else's experiences.  I've since found another one that allows strollers, so I'll ditch the non-stroller one.  Thanks for your input though.

  • I did one with ds#1 in the ergo (back carry) when he was 11 months old. It was also the day after i found out i was pg with ds#2. Needless to say, i wasn't first place but i did have fun and the picture at the finish line is a favorite:)
  • I should add that it was a 5k funwalk/run and i walked a majority of it.
  • Definitely go with the one that allows jogging strollers or go alone.  Safety issues for LO aside, you would have a very hard time running with all that extra weight, particularly if you are not a runner.  I'm a non-runner but do a charity 5K annually, and even the extra weight of a "runner's backpack" holding my keys bothers me when I run.
