Last Minute name change...thoughts?

So, I've been going back and forth for awhile with LO's name. We are naming her after my grandmother Delia. But I've been wanting to give her her own unique twist on it. I've been toying with calling her Adelia or changing the spelling and going with Deliah.

What do you girls think...Adelia, Deliah or stick with Delia?

  • I would consider Adelia, not Deliah. When I read Deliah, I pronounce it totally different than Delia - I read it as duh-lee-uh or duh-lie-uh. I read Delia as deal-ya.

  • For what it's worth, I would pronounce Delia and Deliah the same way.  I think I personally prefer either of those to Adelia.  I can't explain it; it just doesn't flow as well in my head.  But I think they're all reasonable options.

  • I think I like Adelia best, but I read both Delia and Deliah the same. The h didn't change the pronounciation for me.
  • My first thought is....well then you wouldn't really be naming her after your Grandmother would you?

That's okay but it's a pet peeve of mine when people say they are naming their child after so&so except....well it's a completely different name.

All the versions of the name are cute though.

  • I would stick with Delia, I think. To me, Deliah would be de-LIE-uh. Adelia would be a-DEL-i-a or maybe a-DEEL-ya. Another version I like a lot is Adela. Also Adele (though that singer has kind of taken it over lately).

I agree with Sassy here. I feel like if you're wanting to honor the grandma, you should use her actual name (which I adore, btw!) or her first initial.

That said, I prefer Delia. Adelia is also nice. And the extra "h" and the end seems unnecessary.

I agree. I'd stick with Delia. I also agree with the previous poster about pronouncing Deliah differently. It would probably get confused for Delilah a lot too.
