Introducing Jackson Henry (kinda long!)

Im excited to share our crazy fast birth of Jackson Henry... I was due Jan 31st and after a week of waiting we decided to induce because the Drs said I was already carrying a "big" baby and I really was ready to see my lttle guy! We went in on Monday the 6th to get started with the hospital and when I got there I had the best team of nurses. I was a little apprehensive about the hospital we were delivering at but it turned out great.

They gave me a cervix softener at 11:30pm to get things moving as I was only 1cm and he was still really high up. They checked me again at 2:30 am and was still 1 cm and had not changed. They gave me an ambien so I can get some sleep as I wasnt supposed to get the pitocin until the morning. I slept for a few hours and work up at 4:30 with a CRAZY contraction. I was always worried that I wouldnt know what they felt like, but by god- I knew what that was. They started coming fairly fast, and my husband was wonderful with the massages and breathing help. I had to be connected to the monitors  bc he was not doing as well as they wanted him to, which prevented me from being about to move around and help with the contractions. So At about 6:30am I really was struggling and decided to go ahead and get the epidural. I felt like a major wuss for getting it so early but they reallllllllllly hurt! I

My Doc came in at 7:30 to check me, and as soon as she did her face was priceless. She said I was 7cm and making crazy progress. The nurse decided to go ahead and start the pitocin on a low amount and then About 30 minutes later my water broke while I was still in bed. We called my parents to tell them to hurry it up to the hospital as I was moving pretty quickly and didnt want them to miss it.

I really only had about an hour of comfortable "labor" after my water broke. I could feel a little pressure and the epi really helped out a lot, but then about 9:30 the contractions were getting much faster and the pressure was insane. They had turned my epi down as I got closer to the end so that I could feel to push. At 10 am they had me start trying to push and labor him down. I couldnt wait to start this as the pressure was too much to handle. My parents literally walked in about 15 minutes before Jackson was born, and I am so glad they didnt miss it. After pushing for about 30 minutes, the Dr came in and put on her gear and next thing I know there were about 20 nurses in the room and everyone was telling me to push. All I really remember was staring at a light socket in the wall and thinking "I cant do this" while pushing my heart out. My hubby said I didnt really make any noise just kept pushing and finally right as his head started to come out I definately yelled "I cant handle this"... then nurses really rallied around me and then pop pop, I felt the shoulders and next thing I knew he was out.

I think the thing I wasnt prepared for was the shock I was in after having him. I was so horrified about how much it hurt, that I actually managed to just have a baby, and the adrenaline that I didnt want him near me the first minute or so. They put him on my chest and I just wanted him off. I know its horrible to say that as I mother, but really I was just in pain and shock. I delivered the placenta fast and the Dr said I had a 2nd degree tear and sewed me up. (I DEFINATELY felt it! yikes!).. By then I wanted to see my guy and I felt so guilty about my first reaction.

After a few minutes they did skin to skin and I fell in love. He is so sweet and perfect :) Overall I was in labor for about 6 hours with 30 minutes of pushing and really I am so glad it was as fast as it was!!! Unfortunately, he had a high billy reuben count and so he had to go under the lights for two days, but we have him home now and he is doing wonderfully.
