We are sick, sick, sick! DD has been in preschool for 6 weeks and has brought home three colds, but this latest one is a doozy. Nobody can taste or breathe through their noses, so food just hasn't been much fun! We've also been out of the house a lot this week, so I've only got three lunches to share.
Even if you don't normally do cute lunches, try it for Valentine's Day! I
promise, your child will love it. Also, now is a great
time to buy heart-shaped sprinkles, which work great as food
decorations: bows, lips and animal noses can all be made from hearts!
I found this heart cutter at Target (I'm not sure what it's for - I had to use kitchen scissors to cut around the imprint) and made DD a large sealed sandwich. Mini apple, failed attempted at a string cheese heart, and blueberries and dried strawberries. DD's favorite part was the arrow pick going through the apple. The big heart pick in the sandwich is from Party City.
An afternoon of errands meant I had to pack a to-go bento lunch. I scoured the cupboards for non-messy food and this is what I came up with: Hello Kitty sandwich (strawberry cream cheese and peanut butter, because our jelly is runny), snap peas, halved string cheese, raisins, peanut butter filled pretzels and a package of fruit chewys as a special treat (to buy her silence while we got our taxes done). I ran out of time to make the rest of Hello Kitty's features, but DD was happy just the same - and astonished that I let her eat in the car!
DD liked this lunch so much, she had almost the exact same thing the following day. Bean and cheese burrito, strawberries and blueberries, and a row of English cucumber. She loves the picks that are in the strawberries and made up stories about their characters all throughout the meal.
PIP your cute lunches here!
Re: *Cute lunch check-in*
Quick and easy for Valentine's Day. I think we have the same heart pics! Heart shaped strawberries were also super easy and a big hit; just cut a notch out of the top of each berry.
Smart dogs in a heart-shaped silicone cup, edamame with corn, small star cup filled with hummus and a tiny doggie spoon, string cheese, star shaped mini-wheat bread, 2 gummy vitamins (she thinks those are her big treat!), and applesauce.
Last one (and kind of ugly!): more heart-shaped cups for Valentine's Day: strawberries, hard-boiled egg (shaped like a car), chick peas, mixed veggies. The flowers are made out of soy cheese using a mini vegetable cutter.
