Huzzy & Missy

Quick Questions about the root canal -

How long does it take about?  Just trying to figure out with DH watching the kids and for feeding.

My appt is in the afternoon at 3:15.  Am I going to be able to eat dinner after?  Just something mushy like milkshake and soup?

Re: Huzzy & Missy

  • I would say probably 1-2 hours for the procedure. It will probably take 2-3 hours for the numbness to wear off. I would eat beforehand and then you'll be able to eat dinner once the numbness wears off. You can eat before it wears off but it's pretty hard to do....and you don't want to bite your lip or cheek. If your hungry and the numbness is still there, you could always have something soft like yogurt. You will probably have a temporary filling placed where they worked so nothing gooey, sticky, chewy on that side. Also, you can take 800mg Ibuprofen (advil) before the numbness wears off in case you need it for post operative discomfort (provided you have no allergies/can take advil)... You can take 800mg Ibuprofen every 8 hours as needed for pain. They may give you something else if they feel you need it. I'm sure they will go over all that with you tomorrow! Good luck!!

Good luck tomorrow, you certainly deserve to be done with this!!

  • Same to what huzzy said. Take advil before. They will perscribe you stronger pain meds but I never needed it. Soft foods the first night would probably be good. Good luck!

  • Oh, and i anticipated that it would be awful. I've had 3, and it really wasn't as bad as I thought. IMO having a tooth extracted is 10x worse. Hoping this takes care of your pain!!
