Cloth Diapering

Drying pockets

I finally have my stash built up and it is time to wash before my little guy gets here! I have never been this excited to do laundry! Quick dryer question. I know that generally it is better to line dry anything with PUL. Is this true of the first wash as well or should I use the dryer? If so, what temperature? (thanks for advice, I have read everything from line dry to dry on high once to seal the PUL)

Re: Drying pockets

  • i'm not sure of the official "rule" but i dried my PUL in the dryer for about a year before realizing i was adding age to my diapers. i still use the dryer once in a while so i think either way you go is fine! i have heard the "sealing" thing though, so maybe do it once?

  • I am still really new to this, but I think that you have to dry anything with PUL in it on high once to "seal" the PUL.  After that, you can line dry.

  • Yeah, I'd dry it once on high in the dryer.

For every day use, I do often dry on medium for half an hour, then I take out the shells and dry the inserts the rest of the way on high. Other days, the shells get hung. Other days, it all gets hung.

  • for first wash I would dry them to seal the stitches.
  • I only sealed mine in my dryer for about 15-20 minutes. After that they've only been hung up unless the odd shell ends up mixed in with inserts in the dryer.

So far I've line dried all my PUL, but am not against using the dryer every once in a while if necessary. I don't think it would really hurt them.
