Cloth Diapering

I am afraid! Convince me!

We have been cloth diapering for about 3 months now, with the exception of night times! I have a baby with sleep issues, so I am afraid that cloth diapering at night will compound the issue (I am afraid of him feeling wet, and waking up more). However, he's been leaking through his disposables at night time. I tried going up a size, and he's still leaking a lot. So, I was considering trying my cloth diapers at night. In my current stash, I use a cover (Grovia, FB, or Thirsties), and a SoftBums MF/Fleece insert. I also have some hemp doublers, but I rarely need to use them during the day.

EEeeek! Will he wake up wet at night?? Should I give it a try?

  • My boy is a terrible sleeper, but disposables make no difference to it.

I don't really think it will matter. And having to deal with leaks sucks.

  • I don't think that you have anything to lose by trying CDs overnight. We use BG 4.0 at night with a MF insert on top of a hemp doubler. Luckily, we haven't had any leak issues. We also used a fitted with a wool cover and had similar success. Good luck!

  • What's the worst that could happen? He'd still leak and he'd still be a crappy sleeper? No loss as far as I can tell.

It's hard to rip of the bandaid and do it, but you can do it.

Give it a try with the hemp

  • Hi there,

the manager at our local cd store swears by Sustainablebabyish Organic Bamboo Fitteds with a cover. Her LO is a heavy wetter at night and this takes care of the problem.

  • I was a little worried too but you have to just do it.  I did try a few combo's that didn't work and dd woke up wet.  That is ok though.  I was even more convinced to keep trying after dd woke up with a disposable on, she was wet and the little beads were all over her skin.  That was the push I needed to try again.

I am using a size Medium FuzziBunz with the insert and an additional Baby Kick Premium hemp doubler.  It is trim and is working.  DD will go to bed at 7:30 and usually get up at 4 or 5 to eat and is try to the touch.  I always change her if she get up.

  • Try wool!! My girl still nurses throughout the night and we either use a SBish Snapless or an Orange Diaper Co fitted under a Kissaluv wool cover and not a single hint of dampness in the morning.

  • soon2bmomma= what do you do for pj's with wool?  You can't use a regular sleeper can you?  I thought you can get compression leaks with wool.

Sorry to take over the original post.

  • I am going to be a momma in a few months to twins.  It is my first pregnancy and thougth I would like to use cloth diapers.  My mom used them when I was little and they have changed a lot.  What brands do you suggest?  Any great info or tips would be great!

    Thanks

Start by checking out the FAQs.  They're a great resource for those new to cloth diapering.  Then you can ask the more specific questions you have in a new thread where people will see your questions. :)

To OP, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, right?  Worst that happens is LO wakes up wet, but it sounds like you're having that problem anyway.  I don't have any personal experience with overnight options as DS is still at the age where he's awake all hours of the night anyway.  But my personal plan is to use hemp doublers.  I'm thinking about dipping my toes in the world of fitteds and wool though.

  • I just use one of her normal footed sleepers! No compression leaks! I wasn't a believer till I actually tried it - it a mystery how it works but it works. :)
