Two Under 2

3 seats?

any advice? i drive a subaru outback sedan.

my oldest is 6, 7 in july. she's in a backless turbo booster seat. DD2 is 10 months now, but will be 18 months when LO3 gets here. she's still in her infant seat (chicco keyfit) but we're in the market for a convertible.

i'd really like to use the keyfit for LO3, but i need a convertible for DD2 that will fit with that and the booster. is the radian my only option? will the radian even fit?

will a store let you test a seat to see if it fits?

TIA!

Re: 3 seats?

  • The sunshine radian is the narrowest car seat on the market.  It is very tall, so it is difficult to install rear facing.  My hubby does not like this seat at all though.

  • Supposedly BRU lets you try out seats. When I asked the sales associate he shook his head and walked away without answering me, but when I talked to my SIL later (who worked there at the time) she said they should let you. Worth a try.

  • As PP said, the Radian is the narrowest seat you can get, and is tall/awkward for RFing. It's pretty heavy as well, IMO, as far as carseats go, which is neither here nor there to me unless I'm moving it, but DH whines about it affecting his car's performance.

DD2 will be 18 months as well when #3 arrives, and we will then turn her FFing in DH's car to fit a second Radian. (Currently DD1 has a Radian in his car and DD2 is still RFing in the Evenflo Symphony. I'm looking so forward to the whining about two Radians affecting DH's performance. lol)

BRU *should* let you test them, but if the employees in your local store are anything like the ones near me, you're better off carving your own carseat replicas out of wood to see if they will fit! If you have a Buy Buy Baby around, they let you try carseats as well.

I haven't tried it out, but there is an inexpensive Evenflo carseat that looks pretty narrow to me and is shorter than the Radian. I'll google it to see if I can find its name.

ETA: I think it might be the Tribute Sport. I remember looking at it in the store thinking it might work, but we went with the Radian anyway.

  • Thanks everyone. We ended up getting a maxi cosi pria for DD2. I seriously, seriously, doubt it's going to fit with the infant seat and booster, but I'm going to attempt it.

DH is convinced we're buying a minivan, haha. He really hated the radian though, so I just got the seat I want for now, and I'm dealing with the rest of it later. Not the best approach but, it's going to work for now.

For anyone interested I'll update if I somehow puzzle them to fit. But again, I doubt it.
