Hello ladies! I have had an irregular period since I was about 16 - it comes about every 6-8 weeks. I've already seen my gynocologist about it, and she basically said I would be able to have a baby, but it might take some planning on my part. Obviously, its hard to chart when I ovulate because of my irregular period. I also figure that since I only have my period half as much as other women, my chances are pretty much cut in half of getting pregnant (for example, if 90% of women conceive in a year, I would have a reduced chance of conceiving in a year). Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice??? Anything would help. Thank you!
Re: Irregular period and TTC
There is no reason you shouldn't be able to chart even if you are having irregular periods - its just taking your temperature every morning and logging the numbers.
This board is more for people that are either staring infertility treatments/currently undergoing infertility treatments. You will likely fit in better on Trying to get pregnant
Good luck!

Did the doctor do any testing? Bloodwork? Ultrasounds? Irregular periods is often a symptom of PCOS, but I think can be symptomatic of other problems. I would ask for some further testing if they didn't do any. I would also suggest doing BBT charting. You can also do OPKs. It might get expensive since you'd be doing them for a while before seeing an LH surge, but at least you would know that you might be ovulating. However, I had irregular periods and was using OPKs and found out that even though I was getting positives and having a period every so often I wasn't actually ovulating. They are called annovulatory cycles. So I couldn't have even gotten pregnant since there was no egg. Other testing from the doctor showed that I wasn't ovulating. So I started some meds and temping, and finally started ovulating.
Thanks for all the help ladies! It really means alot. I will try the Trying to get pregnant board as well.
