Infection caused PTL

I went for my follow up appointment yesterday with my OB.  He sent me to another hospital for high risk so he didn't actually deliver James.  I knew that I had an infection but thought it was because of my mambrane hanging from cervix.  There was a foul odor in the room during the whole delivery process that I noticed.  Well the delivery notes from the hospital stated that the odor indicated to them that I had had an infection for a few days prior to going into PTL so they believe that is what caused the PTL.  So if it is possible for there to be a silver lining, I feel this is it.  My body didn't just go into PTL for the heck of it like I thought.  OB says we can start trying after 2 AF's if we feel up to it.

I think that would help a lot to have a reason. We all know it's not our fault, but there is a small part that will never be convinced of that (or at least not me) so it's "nice" to have a reason.

I am so glad they figured out the cause and that it is something that can be overcame. 

I am sure it was still an incredibly hard time to hear the diagnosis but I a glad that it was the best news possible out of an impossible situation.

I'm so sorry.

I know you said your cervix was fine, but did they by chance get any measurements prior to going into PTL?  For you to have gotten any infection, your cervix had to have opened at some point.  I tend to blather on about cervical incompetence because it's what happened to me, so if I'm too soon or hurting you, I really don't mean to.  I just wonder if there isn't something that can be done for you next time, in a proactive way? I've learned you have to sometimes fight for yourself in the medical field.

I'm glad you recieved some answers. This whole process sucks but when you know some of the whys it makes planning for the future a little bit easier.

I am not sure I know what you mean by measurements??  You mean dialation measurements?  I am not sure about the other kind of measurements.  I have read some posts about cervix measurements but had never heard of that.  Need educating.
