Cloth Diapering

do you think diapers hinder a baby's movement

This is probably one of the dumbest questions-I apologize for that. BUT my DH seems to think that our daughter is having a hard time getting rolled over because "her diapers are too big and and its keeping her from rolling over". Which may be partly true but she is only 3 months 3 weeks and she is getting closer every day to rolling.  Any experiences with this or comments? I highly doubt it is the diapers LOL, they aren't even that "big" on her. We use BG 4.0

  • My DH wonders the same thing! He also thinks b/c of the bulk, his hips arent going to be as strong.

  • Yes! Mine too! I got to thinking though- back in the good old flats/pin days with the waterproof pants-they had to be lots bulkier than what we have and those kids learned to roll, crawl and walk just fine :)

  • Sorry! I know a lot of questions are asked repetitively but I do not have time to sit on here and look through all of the posts from the day or day before.
  • If you're really concerned, give your baby some naked time every day. It's good for the skin anyway.
  • This has come up so frequently all of the sudden. I think babies just all take different amounts of time to reach milestones. Also, babies, in my experience LOOK as though they are having trouble when they try to roll at first, whether wearing cloth or sposies, or naked for that matter. It takes effort.

That said, my daughter has worn solely cloth since day three, and she rolled front to back two days before her first month mark, and has consistently since then. My other two, who wore sposies rolled after that first month mark.  I don't think her cloth diapers hinder her movement at all.

  • I just posted about this because DS is 6 months old and can only roll back to front and doesn't move his hips or have a lot of flexibility in his hips. We just started PT last week and the PT has me putting him in sposies for 2 weeks to just try it out. I do not think it necessarily hinders 99% of babies regardless of the bulk. But, DS is a very high maintenance and particular baby and if things are not "just right" he will throw a hissy fit. So, he does move a lot more in the sposies, but it could also be due to starting the PT. Either way, your baby is young and I wouldn't even worry about it at all at this point.
