rec your formula mixing pitcher

I see the dr browns one online and it says it holds 4 botttles (8oz size). Is that really enough? I hope to BF but never got milk in with DD so I want to be prepared.

Re: rec your formula mixing pitcher

  • We started out with Dr Brown's pitcher but then my DH bought one of those Ninja blenders and we have been doing it in that so we can make bigger batches.  Any blender would probably work fine but the Ninja is nice because the pitcher part makes it easy to take right off the base after blending and store in the fridge and pour.

  • We had the Dr Brown pitcher and didn't like it one bit.  When boys were on formula, Similac powder was on recall, so we were able to buy RTF at powder price.  Once the powder returned to the market, we'd just prepare the bottles as needed.  I actually preferred not pre-preparing them bc then I didn't have to heat them.  We'd use the nursery water at room temp.  One less step.

  • Loved my Dr. B's pitcher.  We had two of them.  I simply made a pitcher, used until it was gone, and then made another one.

My kids never took to making bottles on demand... all those bubbles from shaking made them pukey :(

  • I have been using the Dr. Browns and yes, it only does 32oz at a time. I make and then pour all the days bottles first thing in the morning, so I have to make 2 pitchers to cover the day. When the boys were newborns I would make and pour out bottles to cover pm feedings, then make another pitcher ready to go for next round.

I BF for a few weeks but never produced enough to keep up with their demand despite trying everything. GL to you and hope this time is different!!

  • LOVE my Dr. Brown Pitcher... had 3 of them because we had so many special formula / combos to mix up.  An item I couldn't live without.

  • We just used 32 oz rubbermaid containers to mix formula.  I would just put in the powder and water and shake.  We had two of them and would just mix up a batch at a time.  We also have a 64 oz container too, but I can't remember if we used it much (formula was a long time ago. :-)

  • I only supplemented a small amount with formula, but I loved the Dr Brown pitcher.  I partially weaned at 6 months and used it a lot more then.  No complaints.

  • Just a couple things to think about... Because they were preemies my girls had to have fortified BM. You can't shake breast milk so any mixer/blender like a Ninja or shaking a rubbermaid container wouldn't have worked. Also, once I started weaning we mixed BM with formula so same thing about the shaking. And lastly, I ended up with babies on two different formulas going to daycare so the 32oz limit wasn't a problem at all with the Dr. Browns.

I think those pitchers are priceless and we couldn't live without them.
