Childcare

So my brother has been watching Ky for a year now on the three dyas a week I need childcare because he has been unemployed and not had an easy time finding work that pays enough for him to send his two to dayare AND bring hom money. Well next school year both of my nieces will be in school full time (one in 1st grade and the other in all day K) and he is looking into working at the roofing company his dad works for. This leaves me with the task of FINDING childcare. Thankfully Ky is 18m and for most places that includes a rate decrease and PT availability. Problem is I really do not want a big chain center. I want something smaller or an in home center. Problem is I have no idea where to start the search. Any suggestions?

Re: Childcare

  • Do a local search for at home childcare or use the state's website to help with finding childcare. I know there are some, but trust your gut when you go to "interview" them. You might be able to find pt early childhood centers.

  • Is there a Children's Home Society in your state?  I got in-home daycare referrals through them years ago.

You can try the welfare office too, since they usually provide childcare aide they should have lists of in-home providers.

  • A lot of home daycare's post their information on Craigslist.  I would definitely ask for their licensing/ certifications/ referrals when visiting.

  • Ditto everyone. Ask around to friends, co-workers, anyone if they know of openings and also who to call to get referrals in your area (they are called something different in every area.) Good luck!

Looks like they have info on the licensing standards and a search for licensed home-based providers.
