Need advice - Diarrhea & Diaper Rash

For the past two days, D has been pooping more than usual. At first, I thought that it was due to her being on solids, but today has been the absolute worse with every single diaper being a full poopy diaper. I think we're up to 10 for today. Only a few of them have been runny, and the rest have been normal consistency. She hasn't had a fever, and she's eating, nursing, and playing like she always does. She even started crawling today! But her poor little bum is a red, angry mess. :(

We've been using the All Natural Boudreaux's Butt Paste on her, letting her air dry before putting a fresh diaper on her, using corn starch, and wiping as little as possible but nothing seems to be helping her since she's been having so many BMs today. I'll be calling the pedi tomorrow morning to see what they recommend because I'm really worried that this may get worse.

Is there anything else that I can do to help her heal? Any rash creams or sprays that may help because the Butt Paste doesn't seem to be working with this particular rash?

Also, what can I do to help relieve her diarrhea? She doesn't act like her tummy hurts, and I'm completely at a loss.

 Thank you!

  • My LO gets that way when her teeth hurt/coming through.

I honestly found, the less cream I put on it, the better it is. I went to adding cream every third change or so and it got a lot better fast.

Also baking soda baths are a miracle cure around here. Just fill tub with plain water, no soap and add a couple shakes.

  • This happened to DD when she was a baby and it was horrible.

Use a wet wash cloth, not wipes, those irritate the bottom and makes it worse. Once you wipe, use a blow dryer on low to dry the bottom well (this was a super pain but it worked, I kept it plugged in by where we changed her diaper). Use extra strength desitin and a layer of  Aquaphor on top, that works very well. These were the only things that helped DD. We never had diaper rash for her before (or after) that.

  • Calmoseptine worked really well for us for diaper rash.  You have to ask the pharmacist for it but you don't need a prescription.  Our pedi reccommended it.

  • LO had really bad diarrhea from amoxicillin and had the worst rash ever!  Dr. suggested blotting Maalox (yes the stuff for your stomach) on the rash with a layer of Triple Paste on top.  After a couple of days it was totally gone.  It was a miracle!

  • The Butt Paste has NEVER helped our daughters real rash... it wasn't strong enough. We bought the Max Strength Desitin and it worked great... it's hard to get out of the tube it's so concentrated. She only gets diaper rash when she has diarrhea so thankfully we only have to break it out on occasion... I use the Butt Paste and regular Desitin for prevention and minor irritation.

I've heard Milk of Magnesia works great on diaper rash... something about letting it dry into a paste and applying it, but I've never tried it.
