I went in the first time on Monday, at six weeks. No ultrasounds or anything, just a pee test, blood pressure, and discussion. They said they normally just do the ultrasound near 20 weeks if you have a normal pregnancy, but that at my 10 week appointment they would search for the heartbeat.
Anyone else in this position? I don't really care because I guess I do have a normal typical pregnancy (no risk factors, no history of loss), and in general I think health care spending is out of control in this country precisely because of people like me demanding ultrasounds, but I am a bit jealous.
Re: Is it normal to get lots of ultrasounds?
I think normal is 2 times. If there is a medical reason to do more they will. I had to have several at the end of my first pregnancy because she was breech.
This. Also, if you have medical issues or a history of loss, you may get more u/s done. But I think 2 is the norm.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
I don't have anything scheduled yet because I just got my bfp today and haven't called my midwife yet.
With my first pregnancy, I had one ultrasound at 12 weeks and one at 20 weeks. I had PIH with that pregnancy so around week 36 I stared having NST's twice a week and once a week they checked the AFI with u/s.
With my second pregnancy I had one at 20 weeks and another a week or so later because they couldn't see all the chambers of my son's heart in the position he was in.

When I was pregnant with my son, I had three utlrasounds. One at 8 weeks to confirm EDD; one at 20weeks; and one around 33 weeks. For these ultrasounds, I had to go to the hospital because my OB's office didn't perform them.
I am at a new OB for this pregnancy, and I have heard that they do utlrasounds more frequently because they have an ultrasound machine in every patient room.

I had 3 with DS, due date check, anatomy scan & growth ultrasound at 34 weeks for my gestestational diabetes.
With DD I had 9. I had possible placenta previa, gestational diabetes and a traumatic fall at 27 weeks to add to the normal mix.
Normally my OB only does one for the anatomy scan at 20 weeks.
With my first pregnancy, they did a 'dating ultrasound' at 8 weeks just to make sure we were on track and baby had a heartbeat. I had another ultrasound at 12 weeks because they couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler (baby had stopped growing at about 9 weeks and no longer had a heartbeat). We would have had another one at 20 weeks if pregnancy had continued healthy.
My sister-in-law had an u/s at 12 weeks and for insurance reasons, were not allowed to have another one unless medically necessary which meant no a/s at 20 weeks. Each practice is different!
