We've all reached the important V-day by now (YAY!!!) so with the less important V-day coming up, lets get some discussion going on this board. What are your Valentine plans?
DH and I have only celebrated V-day once since we've been together (our 1st together). Since then, neither of us has been a big fan of it. I worked in a fine dining restaurant for 4 years after college, so I couldn't stand it. We usually do just a dinner at home together or go to a restaurant that isn't popular for Valentine's Day.
As for gifts, we usually don't do anything except this year we decided to book a 3D/4D ultrasound.. so I guess that's what we're giving each other.
Even though we're kinda V-day scrooges, I still like hearing other's plans... so go
Re: The LESS important V-day
I hear ya! And restaurants ALWAYS overbook so even with reservations, there's always a wait. And there's so much more volume in the restaurants than normal, so I feel like even at good places, the food is never as good as going on a non-holiday.
My husband's a fantastic cook, so usually he makes us a nice meal at home and we get each other small gifts. Our anniversary is in March, so I'd rather make a big deal out of that instead of Valentine's Day.
But this year he'll have his MBA class all evening and won't get home til 9:30
I'll probably make him a dessert or something.
We have never went out to eat at a restaurant. Usually one of us cooks a really nice dinner and we hang out at home. We dine out often enough, and would rather do it when there aren't crowds, and "special" ($$$$) menus.
This year, due to costly car repairs that sprang up, I told him not to spend a bunch of money on me. We had so much fun shopping for funny "Dirty Santa" gifts at Big Lots this past Christmas, I thought it would be fun if we separately went to Big Lots to purchase Valentine's Day gifts for each other! $10 limit. There's NO TELLING what funny stuff we'll come up with!
For SuzyQ and all March 15 loss moms
We're planning to ship DS off to my parent's for the night. It works perfect because SO has no class until the following afternoon and DS is pre-school free for the day.
We're planning to have a night-in. No movies planned yet. We've talked tentatively about making a steak dinner (rare for us), some yummy asparagus, and we're up in the air about any other sides at the moment. I'm thinking some sparkling cider is in order. Also, I want to get some fresh strawberries. We had a fun time dipping them together on our last couple's night away.
Then of course, sexy time is on the nightly agenda (although maybe it should be before I'm stuffed and possibly having heartburn). I doubt we'll exchange gifts or cards.
DH and I have our anniversary the day after V-Day, so we avoid doing too much for V-Day so we can go all out for our anniversary.
This year we are relaxing and having a spa day together. After we are having dinner at Cheesecake Factory, then coming home for alone time.
We always exchange cheesy gifts every year though just for laughs and to be cute. Last year I got a white stuffed dog with hearts all over it, the standard choclates, a card, etc.
I am interested to see what I get this year.
We usually go out to eat "for" Valentine's Day but never on the day itself bc restaurants are so crazy - for us it's just an excuse to go out to eat lol. H usually gets me a gift but i'm a bad wife and never get him anything (and I always tell him not to get me anything) because I think it's such a Hallmark holiday and my birthday is right before it anyway. This year he got me a really pretty amethyst ring for it before I said "no gifts" (he got it around Christmas time when it was on sale lol) and so he has already given that to me as part of my birthday gift.
Anyway - on the actual day we'll probably have a nice meal at home and he'll have a glass of wine. Big plans. lol.
