Nuria is pronounced NOO-ree-ah. It's a Catalan/Spanish name.

  • I think it would always get pronounced "Nur-ee-uh". If I were Catalan/Spanish and that has some significance to me, I might consider it but otherwise I would stick with something my child won't have to spell and/or pronounce for people her whole life.

    I agree.  Maybe cause it ends in -ria?  And it rhymes with with urea, a component of urine.

  • I like it, and looking at this name online, there's supposed to be an accent on the "i" which changes the pronunciation. I like the nn Nur, Nuri (It reminds me of Noor). 
  • I think there are much prettier Spanish names, but it's okay. I agree with pp that the pronunciation will be butchered in America. Americans can rarely make Spanish names sound as lovely as Spanish speakers.

  • My husband worked with a Nouria (Pakistani), pronounced the same way.  She went by Nor informally, but no one mispronounced Nouria.
