2+ Moms Stretch Mark Question

What is the likelihood that I could get stretch marks this second time around when I didn't get any last time? Has this happened to anyone?

I know they say it's all genetics, but I'm not really sure where the genetics lie for me on this one. With my first I got huge and didn't have any stretch marks. But, lately my stomach has been itching a lot and the lady at Motherhood Maternity got me all freaked out by saying that wherever you itch, you'll get a stretch mark. I can't think that's true, but I also can't stop freaking out about it and wondering if maybe I'm not moisturizing enough or I will get them this time! I have really dry skin and hair, so I only shower every other day during the winter to help a little. But should I be putting lotion on my belly still every night? Oh I hate how paranoid I'm being right now, but my legs have already gone to hell with varicose and spider veins so I'd really like to try to keep my belly stretch mark free if at all possible! haha!

Re: 2+ Moms Stretch Mark Question

  • First I didnt get any! The second I got about 4 that are about 2 inches each... but I think its bc you grow faster! Im pregnant with number 3 so I hope no more:( GL!! Just drink lots of water and use lots of cocoa butter!!:)

  • With my first I got no stretch marks.  Until my milk came in, then I had stretch marks ALL OVER my boobs.  Second pregnancy, I got quite a few stretch marks all over my butt- I swear I wasn't much bigger than the first time, but anyway.  And at the end I did get a few around my belly button.  So, things can be different with each pregnancy.  But I've never heard the itching theory.  Honestly, after losing our third pregnancy, I don't care if I'm covered in stretch marks as long as we have a healthy baby.
  • I had the same question.   I didn't get any with #1 either and I really don't want to get them with #2.  Sounds like it's a toss up though.  Tongue Tied

  • i had this same question yesterday and was asking coworkers what they thoughtSmile i also didn't get any with my DS, and this pregnancy i feel like i am on the same track as i was with him. I am also only 18 weeks but i am keeping my fingers crossed that i will be stretch mark free again! After i shower and before i dry off i always use baby oil and than pat myself dry. it helps me stay a little more moisturized!

  • I didn't get any with my first and I haven't gotten any with this one yet.  I still have 9 weeks until my due date though, so there's still time for them to pop up.  I'm hoping I get lucky this time around too, but I'll just have to wait and see.

  • I don't really know because I got them my first AND second time. But I know with my second I grew faster, and carried very differently, both of which I'd suspect could play a role in new stretch marks.

  • #1 Zero

#2 not yet.. Praying it stays that way.

  • I got a ton with my first, they faded out pretty quickly to silvery/white and then kind of got pinkish agian with my 2nd but I didn't get any new ones then faded back out again. So far with #3 they're still faded out and no new ones.

Well spoken.  Be thankful that this is your main concern right now as some of us are just hoping and praying baby is healthy.

  • I think it's genetics.  I didn't get any for my first or second and I assume I won't get any this time around either.

My mom had four and never got any either.

  • My belly was huge when I was due with ds1 and I didn't get any stretchmarks.  I had the itchy belly and, again, a big belly the 2nd time around too and still no stretch marks on my belly or boobs.  I did get a few on my hips but I already had some so it's really nothing that I notice.  We'll see how things go this time around.  And, for the record, my mom's stomach is covered in stretch marks from my brother and me.

  • Umm, the thing the Motherhood lady said? About getting a stretch mark anywhere you scratch? Totally false. I do have some on my hips and boobs, but nowhere else, and believe me, I scratched everywhere except those places. I know you're not supposed to. I'm bad for that. Lol
