Pregnant after IF

Well hello there...

I was going to wait until my first u/s to introduce myself over here, but I have some new pregnancy questions so I figured I would just intro now. Some of you probably know me already from IFV.

A little background: DH and I have been trying for 3 years, 2 years with an RE. I am DOR and have egg maturity issues, I also have Crohn's disease. This was our third and final IVF, and it worked! Beta #1 was 102, #2 285.  Beta #3 is tomorrow.

I am very nervous about everything that could go wrong at this point. But really excited also. I already can't help looking at baby stuff on-line, and DH and I spend the little time we have together talking about baby names and stuff. My 30th birthday is today and I am letting myself go buy "What to Expect When You are Expecting" as a present to myself.

So here is my first question: When did you make your first appt with the OB? My first u/s will be in about a week and a half, and if all goes well then they will release me from the RE's care. The issue is I plan on switching OB/GYN offices because I want to deliver at a different hospital then where my current GYN delivers. So should I go ahead and call the new office now to get the ball rolling or wait till I get officially released?

Thanks ladies! I hope I get to stick around here for a nice long 9 months!

Re: Well hello there...

  • Congrats and great to see you over here! Also happy birthday! What a wonderful bday present :)

My RE didn't release me until I was 10w but I went ahead and made my appt with the OB before I was released since I knew they book up fast. I think you should go ahead and make yours asap as well esp since you want to change offices and may need some lead time to get things squared away with insurance (if applicable).

    Gl with beta 3!

  • yay!!! so happy to see you over here :)

and p.s.- i'm a firm believer that the lucky socks you sent me last spring helped! i wore them to every appt!!

i was released almost at the end of 1st trimester, since my RE had me on continued progesterone & estradiol support, so around 10 weeks they had me stop meds, and then i was released to my ob.

i had my first obgyn appt at 11 weeks.  So i would call, because being a new patient, there may be a wait before they can see you, so call now! :)

I'm hoping everything goes smoothly for you!!! wishing you a h&h 9 months!!!

  • Congratulations!  So happy to see you over here!  And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I was released from my RE at 8 weeks and made my OB appointment at that time.  However, if I were you and I were switching practices, I'd definitely call the OB practice you want to go to and get the ball rolling!

    Good luck!

  • Hi beadinglady Geeked Happy Birthday!

I was released from my RE at 8w2d and like you I had to switch OB/GYN. I actually called like 2 weeks ago and my first appointment with the OB is today (9w) so I think it's never to soon to call! I say do it now!

  • Congrats and welcome!  I didn't get released from my RE until 10 weeks, and I called that day and made the appt. with my new OB (I also switched practices as my gyn doesn't deliver babies anymore) at 12 weeks.  GL with beta #3 today!

  • Congratulations!!!!

It is so amazing to see you here and you best stick around for 9 mos =)

I graduated at 9 weeks and called my OB as soon as I was cleared from my RE. I called that day.

I was scheduled to come in 10 weeks 3 days. She likes to see patients between 10 and 12 weeks for the first time.  I was with a new OB also, same practice but different OB.

Maybe call the new OB's office and ask when the would like to see you -- you can always switch your appointment. I would make it, though, sometime after your graduation date.

    Good luck!

  • Congrats, so happy to see you here!

My OB wouldn't make my appt until I was released.  Once I was released I called and they were able to get me in the next week.  I would just call ahead of time and see how your new dr schedules so you know.

  • So very excited to see you here!!! It wouldn't hurt to go ahead and call. I was pretty much released after two betas and my first u/s at 7 weeks. I had my first OB appt at 8 weeks and another at 10 weeks and then got on every 4 week schedule now. What a happy birthday for you!!!

  • Congrats on your betas! I waited to see the hb before scheduling my ob appt with a new practice. That was almost too late since I could not get an appt with the dr of my choice till I was 12 weeks along. I went for my first appt and nt scan the same day. Efficient yes, but not ideal.

I was with my RE until 12 weeks but that's not the standard for a lot.  I didn't see my OB until 12 weeks.  Some will see you in conjunction with your RE others want to wait until you're released.  I'd call the new practice and see what they say! :)

  • Congratulations! I called my OB the day I was released from the RE at 7w, but I wasn't able to see her until I was 13w5d! My OB had a vacation planned, and then I did also, and that was the first time that worked. So, I would definitely go ahead and make an appt, especially since it is a new practice and there may be a wait to get an appt for a new patient.

  • Welcome lady!!!! Happy Birthday and Congrats!!!

I scheduled my appointment for my OBGYN at 6 weeks because they can get booked up pretty quickly.  Just tell them your situation and that way you have an appointment on the books.  A lot less stress.

    and again

very happy to see you here!

  • I just spoke with my RE yesterday and will be having U/S done in week 7 and 9.  They told me to call my OB right now to make an appt during week 8, and the OB and RE will be overlapping for a few weeks.  Not sure when I will be graduating from the RE as it is still very early.

I did call the OB and we are not yet scheduling an U/S, but I am going in for the basic appt about where they deliver and other such FAQ stuff.

If I were you, since you want to go to a new OB, call as soon as you can!  At least get the ball rolling.  They can make an appointment far out from now and that's better than trying to squeeze in at the last minute.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

    Good luck! :)

  • Congratulations!!! Wonderful news!! As far as making a first OB appointment, I don't think it hurts to call sooner rather than later. Here in Israel, you can see your RE until the end of first tri, so I actually didn't graduate until 13w2d, but I did make my first OB appointment about a month before I was released.
