I am preparing a list of things we will need for when Birdy is born. She will be born anytime from now to March 19th (34 weeks), so no matter what she will spend some time in NICU. We are planning a small hospital baby shower. What are some things that you needed or loved having, either while the baby was in NICU or when she finally came home?
Thanks so much, ladies.
Edit: I will be pumping and eventually EBF. But I did add to my list Dr Browns bottles and preemie nipples.
Re: Preemie shopping list
here are some suggestions (by no means a complete list but hth)
For mom/dad in the NICU: a journal to write in ( I wrote to the baby everyday), comfy clothes and nursing tops, a reusable water bottle, a plug in charger for your phone/electronics, I carried an appointment book/calendar to write her weight gain/feeding/procedures etc. I also packed a "pumping" bag every day with my pump parts, storage bottles/lids, towel, nursing cover, extra tubing, lanolin cream, extra breast pads etc.
For baby in the NICU: check with the hosptial about what you can/should bring. In my NICU we brought receiving blankets for her isolette, a nice blankie to throw over the isolette, and when she was bigger and could wear clothes we brought her preemie sized NICU ready clothes (snap up jammies, no zippers, little shirts with side snaps, socks, and lots of HATS!!) Most of everything else they will have at the NICU for you. Different kinds of bottles nipples when she started eating. I cant think of anything else right now
For home: DD wouldnt sleep anywhere but in our arms when she came home, it was a struggle, everyone on here suggested the FP Rock n Play sleeper - what a god send! it was perfect for her and later for her reflux.

sleep sheep on the go for NICU and home.
rock and play sleeper for home. Best item ever! I recommend this to everyone; preemie or not
I actually have the rock and play sleeper already. I used it for my sister's baby and sure wish I had it for my other two. Its awesome.
Thanks!

1) Hands free pumping bra and extra set of parts, cream, breast pads
2) Rock and Play
3) Preemie and Newborn sized onesies and snap sleepers (our NICU liked to layer), maybe some gowns for when LO comes home
4) Medela steam sanitize bags
5) Sleep Sheep or other sound machine
My son did not do good with the Dr Brown bottles with preemie nipples. By the time we left NICU he was already on a Level 1 type nipple and the Dr Brown bottles made him spit up. Point being, if you buy these, do not open and sterilize all of them until you are certai n they will work well. We ended up doing best with Born Free.
I second the Simple Wishes pumping bra, at least one extra set of pumping set up, etc... Lots of blankets if you do not already have them and Purell. I was a bit of a germaphobe for at least a few months after son came home and never put him down unless he was on a clean blanket- ha ha. I love the Aden and Anais! I also really liked having a first floor station for changing- whether it be an extra changing table or pack n play. Lots of burp clothes were needed too.
