Last BF session for self-weaning EBF?

What was the last nursing session that your EBF baby/toddler dropped? I thought it would be the evening session but DD seems to be cutting it short, some evenings not even getting any milk before she lets go and points at the crib. In the morning however, we still snuggle up for 15-20 minutes and nurse. When I am home on weekends she frequently asks to nurse but is easily distracted and I tend to say no unless she is sick or it is a very relaxing afternoon at home. I have to be done nursing by late April so I'm trying to figure out is she will self-wean or I have to push a bit.

  • I don't have any advice, but my son has pretty much cut out his before bed session as well. I was pretty surprised that that was the first significant one to go.

  • Annie was down to morning and night and just recently cut out the morning session, but we were kind of encouraging her to. We're just at bedtime now.

  • It was the bedtime session. At age 2 she would nurse in the morning and at for bed. I planned on sowly stopping the to bed session but she suddenly dropped the morning session. It actaully worked out better because I had to travel for a week at 28 months and DH did bedtime and then minus one 30 second frustrating attempt to start up again we were done.

  • Morning was the last for Ari. I thought the bedtime session would be the roughest, but it was one of the 1st to go.

He went from 3-4 sessions a day down to 2 (the second being when I got off work, & that session was usually really short) very quickly. We stuck at the one session in the a.m. for about 2-3 months before he self weaned. Basically the last month he would skip a day here & there, then 2, then skip more often. I figured if he didn't cut it out by 24 months we'd push the issue, but it only took 3 weeks for him to wean completely.

  • DD also dropped before bed nursing before anything else. She latched on and then let go and reached for the crib. Morning is our big snuggle/nurse session.

  • Thanks for the input, interesting to see that many LOs actually does skip the bedtime session first. Also good to see that many self-wean before 2 years, I hope I don't have to push too hard but I am going away for a week without DD.

  • Morning was Annalise's last session. She didn't technically self wean though. I started the weaning process when I couldn't get her latch corrected. She kept digging her top teeth into me leaving teeth marks. We weaned 3 sessions over 4 months, so it was a slow process. The after work one was first and easiest. If I didn't sit down, she didn't remember to ask, and then we'd eat dinner right away. Before bed, I just stopped offering, and after a while she stopped asking. I still laid down with her until she fell asleep. She always crawled into our bed in the middle of the night, so by morning she wanted her mommy milk. I don't remember how long that session took.
