66 degrees in fleece...too cold?

I've been trying to keep my house around 66 degrees at night and I keep DS in footed fleece pjs.  If I don't put any other layer on him, do you think he would be too cold?  Tonight I'm experimenting with putting on a very light blanket on him.

He's not consistently STTN and I can't figure out what's up.  He will go for a couple of weeks sleeping until 3 or 4, and then revert back to waking 2-3 times/night. I can't help but wonder if it's a temp issue. I've been trying all sorts of different blanket weights to see if it makes a difference.

Re: 66 degrees in fleece...too cold?

  • Would you be warm enough in all fleece?  Do you have fleece pjs you can try out with no blankets?  If you are warm enough, he probably is.

  • That's hard to say without being in his room. How do you dress him?  I do a short sleeved onesie, cotton footed pjs, and a cotton sleep sack and have the temp between 68-70. She seems comfy. I dislike fleece because it seems like it doesn't breathe as well. Her feet are sweaty when I've changed her in the AM.

I won't do a blanket for obvious reasons since she is so mobile.

  • He might be too cold- my DD is in a short sleeve onesie, long sleeve cotton sleeper, and a fleece sleep sack. We keep the heat at 64 but I do have a small space heater with an automatic shut off in the room since setting the temp at 64 does not guarantee that her room will be that warm!

  • I wonder too about chill.  DD wears fleece footies and a fleece sleep sack.  We have our thermostat at 63/64 at night though upstairs is warmer.  I've thought about a space heater but it makes me nervous.  Ultimately we need better insulation.
  • DD wears fleece footie pjams and I put a loose stitched afghan on her (I'm not worried about her putting it on her face since it's full of holes).

We keep the heat at 63 and she never seems cold but I've been wondering if keeping it warmer would help her sleep longer. The problem is if we keep it any warmer then dh and I are sweating and can't sleep.

Those that keep a space heater in the baby's room what kind do you use/do you feel safe doing that?

  • If he is in fleece PJ's at 66degrees, I would put another light layer on him. Also swaddling will help with him sleeping longer and more sound. Maybe you could do fleece PJ's and then wrap him in a thin swaddling blanket. We use the adien+Anais swaddling blankets from Target because DD is very hot natured and these are thin muslin material.

  • If I put my LO in fleece and swaddle him he sweats up a storm...but i think its because the fleece doesnt breath well.

I usually just do a footed sleeper and then swaddle him...and he is fine.  His room is the warmest in the house and at night its between 64 and 67.
