I am 13 weeks along with my first and am very interested in BWing, both for the emotional and practical benefits.
I was wondering if anyone suffered from any pain conditions or back problems and had experience BWing?
I've read that woven wraps have less give so they don't allow the child to pull away from you? It makes sense to me that the closer the child is to my body, the less uncomfortable I would be. I think slings would be difficult to handle since the weight isn't distributed evenly?
Where do you guys buy your wraps? Thanks in advance, ladies.
Re: Fibromyalgia/back problems and BWing
I just have the usual aches and pains, but I find using a carrier puts less stress on my body than just trying to hold my baby.
I've used a mei-tai, an Ergo, and a ring sling quite a lot. I liked the mei tai when he was little. A lot of people do like wraps with newborns, and a woven works all the way through toddlerhood. A two-shoulder carrier (or wrap) will distribute things more evenly than a one-shouldered carrier.
I bought the Ergo on babysteals.com, the mei tai was an exchange on an older recalled sling I got at a consignment store, and I bought the ring sling used on the diaperswappers.com forums.

I would be lost without woven wraps! For me, wearing DS is far less painful tham carrying him.Not to AW myself, but I'll share because it does answer your questions...here is a blog entry on my site that addreses where to learn about wraps and where buy used ones and I link to another blog entry that I wrote for my babywearing group on the specifics of wearing baby with chronic pain/back pain as a strategy to thive as an AP parent.

I had chest surgery 5 years ago ( i had a rib removed) I also have limb differences in my legs and i have chronic pain because of a genetic bone disorder.
I comfortable wore DS in a ring sling until he was about 15lbs. The Beco was a lifesaver for when he got heavier. For me, it was all about getting him positioned on me properly, NOT how the instructions say. Like with the Beco, you're supposed to put the support strap on your UPPER back, which I cannot do. I put down lower on my back and was extremely comfortable. The ring sling I had to sling the rings lower on my arm/shoulder than all of the pictures to help balance the weight and twist better.
DS was always safe and worn properly I just had to adjust the carriers different than they suggested.
Thanks!
Will definitely look into what everyone said! Thanks again!
I have scoliosis (that was corrected with rods) so I typically have a lot of back pain, but for some crazy reason it's been fine ever since I had my baby. Wearing your baby is a lot easier on your whole body than lugging them around with your arms, that gets really hard on your wrists, shoulders, etc.
I have a few different carries, a mei tai, ergo, moby (sold that one), and the k'tan (my absolute FAVORITE). I wish I just got the k'tan originally and nothing else. You can do so much with it, a lot of ladies here use them as well. You just order them off their website.
Thanks!
I was just reading about the k'tan today. Is that a 'woven' wrap?
