Two Under 2

Did you carry the same way you did with your first?

Hi everyone, we're planning on TTC #2 this Summer so if we're blessed I'll be joining you soon. I am just curious if your second pg was like your first at all. I had a great pg (gained little, no bloating, and little morning sickness) and wondering if I'll carry the same and if anything else will be the same. Thanks so much!

Re: Did you carry the same way you did with your first?

  • My pregnancies have all been similar for the most part I've carried the same with all 3 (all were out in front and high, DD2 was a bit lower but I didn't look crazy low with her she just hung out low and I dropped really early).

Symptoms have been very similar but my pregnancies have gotten harder each time though overall. I was sick during all pregnancies but REALLY sick during my 2nd the entire time. I'm still sick on and off with this pregnancy but it hasn't been as bad as my sickness with #2 thankfully (similar amount of nausea but I'm not puking nearly as much and that has been nice - I threw up a ton with #2). However, everything else this pregnancy has been harder: mood swings, body aches (back pain, more painful BHs that started really early, RLP, etc.) and fatigue. 3 pregnancies in 3 years is probably a big part of that though!

Its so different for everyone though. I know people who feel the same with every pregnancy and others who have a super easy pregnancy with one kid and a hard one with the next or vice versa.

  • Very different this time for me.

Now: I'm a lot smaller (gained hardly any weight so far) and carrying more out front than last time. Same aches and pains though. This baby also seems a lot more active than DS was. LOTS of kicking and for longer stretches of time!

With DS my hips, rib cage (and subsequently shoulders) got very broad and I gained lots of weight (almost 50lbs).

Everyone is commenting on how small I am this time!

    I'll love you forever,
    I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

  • I had similar symptoms etc (very very sick both times, threw up every day) with both pregnancies. But I physically carried very differently. My second pregnancy was a lot "smaller", in that I carried internally and didn't show until at least 20 weeks and even though it was full term instead of 36 weeks I didn't get any bigger around than with the first one. Interestingly she was 9 lbs as opposed to my older son who was 6lbs13oz.

  • This pregnancy has been totally different!

The beginning was easier - I felt way less tired and sick (although I really didn't have a hard time with the first one either). I have gained a bit less weight this time, but look much bigger!

The big difference has been in the last few weeks. I never had any contractions before my water broke and I went into labor with DS. This time I have an 'irritable uterus', which means I've had a lot of mild-painful contractions (enough to land me in the hospital twice because they were 5 minutes apart for several hours) since 33 weeks. With a 15 month old around, it makes things very difficult...

  • Both my pregnancies were great, very very similar in symptoms but had nothing major.  Little nausea, however constant nighttime stomach pains with both (that was the worst of it) and lived off of Tums.  I gained the same amount of weight with each but more slowly the 2nd time and carried it differently.  It went everywhere the first time and pretty much stayed in my belly the 2nd time.  Other than that, they were both great.  The 1st was more enjoyable because there wasn't a toddler running around but delivery was easy peasy!!  Good luck and enjoy it, it goes even faster the 2nd time!!
  • DS#1- Smooth Ride the whole time, healthy appetite, carried low and all up front

DD- Very Sickly for the first few months, really bad dehydration near the end, no appetite, carried high(smuggling basketball)

DS#2- Smooth Ride despite terrible BH and over-tiredness/laziness, healthy appetite, carrying low and all up front..

So I guess you can say my boys have been alike so far

  • My pregnancies were polar opposites. With my first, I was never sick and carried DD1 very high. Overall, I felt great and didn't have any complications until 41 weeks when my blood pressure shot through the roof. I delivered via c-section.

With my second, I was sick for the first 5 months, had terrible sciatic pain, and carried very low which was awfully painful from 7 months on. I didn't have any blood pressure issues and delivered DD2 via VBAC. The only thing that was similar is that I carried past my due date both times.
