C-sections

How Soon?

How soon after your c-section were you doing housework, cooking, cleaning etc? I'm 2 weeks post c-section today. I am feeling pretty good, however really don't want to over do it or rush anything. My discharge instructions basically just said activity as tolorated, no exercize for 6 weeks, and steps in moderation for the first 2 weeks. But that being said, my cousin was told by her doctor no cleaning, vaccuming, etc for 4 to 6 weeks. Just wondering when you ladies started back in with the housework etc.

Thanks.

Re: How Soon?

  • I didn't do a whole lot before 4 weeks.  By 4 week pp I felt about 90% normal.  I just took it slow and if something bothered me I stopped and tried again later.

  • 2-3 weeks, lightly.  My parents went home when I was 2 weeks pp, and DH was working long hours, so it was do it myself or look at a mess all day.

I certainly wasn't waxing the floors, but it was no big deal to run the vacuum or make a simple dinner.

  • I didn't do a lot, but that's not just because I was recovering from a c/s. I'm pretty lazy. lol MH's company closed the day we brought Lucas home so he was home for the 1st month and did everything around the house.

  • My DH works on the river so he left at the 2 week mark and I was on my own. I even went back to my vending job at the 2 week mark *i'm a bread vendor a few days a week*. Even with all the activity I was doing my recovery went well and my scar healed great!
  • I didn't do very much until about 4 weeks.  I ended up with cellulitis from a shot they gave me in the hospital, so I couldn't use my arm very much, which probably slowed things down a little for me too.  Start slow, if you have pain or more bleeding, you're doing too much.

  • I know this sounds crazy, but around day 5 or 6. I felt almost completely normal. I'm now 2 weeks pp and the doctor said everything is healing great

  • For my first c/s recovery it took forever because of how sick I had been with pre-e combined with the fact DD was in the NICU.

This time around I'm feeling like myself again and DS will be 2 weeks tomorrow. I folded laundry and fixed a few light dinners by the 1 week mark. I was also cleared to pick up my 15 month old 1 week after surgery. Honestly the housework hasn't been my issue - it's been walking if we go anywhere; I'm fine while I'm moving, but get really stiff and sore if we stop and look at something or talk to someone.

  • The more you move around the better you'll feel..Just dont strain yourself...I was up and about one week after!!... Obviously not doing hard labour but making dinner and small walks.. I can't just sit around...I am now 5wks post section and ready to work out but i'll wait until the 6 week mark...But I've been doing household chores since week 3!
