Cluster feeding?

DS has been shortening his feeding sessions but wanting to eat more often. Is this cluster feeding? Should I just let him go at it?

Re: Cluster feeding?

  • At this early age I would feed him on demand. They are growing so much, plus it builds up a great supply for when they need more at each sitting. Scar did almost nothing but eat for 12 hours yesterday. She took a few tiny naps but not many!

Yes, let him go at it. Just because they are shorter does not mean he is getting less milk. Some times DS nurses for 15 min flat, other times he nurses for an hour.. my girls always go from the same state of full/firm to soft/mostly empty.

IF you are BF'ing- AVOID supplementing. It may feel easier at the time, but it will hurt your supply and when you figure out your mistake (as I did) you'll end up having to do the same thing either way.. Letting him nurse for hours on end if that is the case..  Its a PITA to sit there and nurse for what seams like hours, but it tells your ladies that you need more milk! If you're FF'ing ignore my unasked for advice

My DS clusterfeeds from 6pm-8 every night.. he'll nurse for a half hour, sleep for a half hour, nurse for a half hour, sleep- round and round. It gives me a chance to watch the nightly news and jeopardy and give him his bath while DH watches wheel (for being in our 20's we are such old people!)

I am bfing and haven't supplemented, so the advice was appropriate, lol. And DH and I love jeopardy and wheel! We are also in our 20s and watch it every night! (well I am in my 20s, DH crossed over to his 30s in June lol).
