TTC after 35

Looks like IUI#3 might get postponed

Went in this a.m. for my CD2 baseline appointment and had cysts in one ovary.  Waiting for bloodwork results to know for sure but it looks likely I'll be canceled.  Oddly, my reaction is more relief than frustration -- after a lap and an injects/IUI cycle back to back I don't think I'd mind having a break cycle -- though it's a break I wasn't going to give myself voluntarily.

I guess my next question if I do get canceled will be whether to do this third IUI cycle or go straight to IVF, since I'm already on the IVF calendar for March and I'm pretty sure my insurance doesn't require a set number of IUI cycles before IVF.  I have to say I'm tempted just to plunge ahead into IVF.  What would you ladies do?

Re: Looks like IUI#3 might get postponed

  • My IUI #2 was cancelled for a cyst.  I have already decided that after IUI #2 is under my belt that I will go to IVF and not do any more IUIs.  I would actually skip IUI #2 if I did not already pay for most of it.  I am exhausted and I don't know how much more I can take.  It sounds like you are getting to that place as well.  It is a hard decision to make.  Good luck.

  • Sorry about the canceled cycle, but I think taking a break when you feel like you need one is a very good thing. I wish I had taken a break after our first IVF, rather than plunging right into FET. I wasn't ready for that. Hopefully taking a month off will be what you need to get ready for the next steps.

I would probably skip IUI #3 and head right to IVF, especially since you are already on the calendar. I don't like to change plans once they are set. Smile

    Good luck with your decision!

  • I'm sorry about the cysts! And I agree with the others about staying on track for March IVF. I was actually thinking that a break cycle might be a very good thing knowing that you have IVF on the horizon.

If you ask around on the IF boards hardly anyone regrets moving too quickly into IVF - most people say they wish they had done it sooner.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope you're able to enjoy a brief respite from treatment!

  • Hmmm....tough decision.  The obvious pro of moving to IVF is that you get the show on the road sooner.

But I keep thinking about this the same way I approach it when I lose my keys or wallet.  I tend to put off looking in the place where I am pretty sure that the lost item is, because if I look there and it isn't there, I wouldn't have any other place to look.  So in some ways, I want to keep trying IUIs because there is still another last resort.    Of course, I realize that this isn't a necessarily rational approach.

     Either way, good luck!

  • Sorry about the cancellation. Boo hiss to cysts.

No idea whether you should try another IUI. We skipped the third when timing didn't work, but our MFI makes IUI extremely unlikely to work. If IVF won't be that much more money than IUI, I think you should do IVF in whatever month you have the lightest work schedule.

    Enjoy your cycle off!
