I'm 6 weeks along with this pregnancy, and dd is almost 2. I'm hoping for twins! My maternal grandmother had 4 sets of twins and dh has twins on his side too. Just wondering when during your pregnancy you found out it was twins or more? Any thing I can watch for??
Re: When did you find out it was multiples?
You know who says this? People who don't have twins!
Seriously, a twin pregnancy is high risk - many of the ladies on this board had/have difficult pregnancies and babies born very early. Those of us who didn't feel very fortunate.
Because the teacher in me can't help it, whether your DH has twins on his side of the family doesn't matter - fraternal twins run in families on the mother's side. Identical twins don't run in families, the just show up.
Good luck with your pregnancy. To answer your question, I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks due to spotting and we discovered there were two!
Yes...the U/S. Mine showed two sacs and two heartbeats at 5w6d. That is the only sign that will show you that you're having twins.
GL with your pregnancy!

We had no reason to expect or suspect twins. We got pregnant on the first cycle we tried. Found out there were two at 11 weeks via ultrasound.
Even though my H has twins in his family, as PP said, the father's heredity doesn't factor in. Since ours our fraternal, it means I ovulated twice and each egg was fertilized. I could in theory pass hyper ovulation to my daughter and my son could pass it along to his daughter, if it was even a trait to pass along. It could have been a random occurrence of two eggs being released and may never happen again.
Boy/girl twins born at 37w1d and 37w2d
Dx: MFI- 3% morph
IUIs: Gonal-F + Ovidrel + b2b IUI= BFNs
IVF with ICSI= BFP! EDD 11/25/11

Our twin boys arrived at 36w5d due to IUGR and a growth discordance
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
The ultrasound at 8wks to date the pregnancy.
That's pretty much the only way to be sure....
My OB's practice does a routine 8-week transvaginal U/S so we found out then. We had fraternal twins, too, in the family so I wasn't shocked it was twins--just shocked they were identical, which are not genetic!
I think in terms of symptoms it's hard to tell. One of my good friends has morning sickness way worse than I did and she's having a singleton. GL!
did IVF, transferred two embryos, had high betas...saw two sacs on screen at around 5 weeks. if you didn't do IVF or use fertility treatments, aren't having regular betas checked, and aren't having an early ultrasound, there aren't symptoms that will tell you that you are having twins ....
i also had a singleton pregnancy...no IVF, no betas...much more vomiting....
IVF 1 April 2011 - Cancelled
IVF 1.5 July 2011 - MC
IVF 2 October 2011 - BFP!
*Identical Twin Boys born June 2012*
Here we go again...IVF 3 is underway!
This, except I found out at 8 wks.
The only way to tell is via u/s. Congrats on your pregnancy
We found out at the 12 week nt scan after number 2 was missed at 8 weeks. Quite the shock.
And I'm very pleasantly surprised by the lack of mob on this. Way to go ladies!
I think it was about 8 weeks. Regular OB apt. to confirm pregnancy.
I want to add for all the MoMs responding. I have never felt happier to be a member of this board. You guys are so stinkin' sweet!!!

A couple of days after my BFP when my DH told me! I was so sick with m/s that he said "there must be 2 in there!"
All joking aside, 7 weeks. We had a confirmation u/s since I had a prior m/c and we saw 1 sac with a thin membrane in between with 2 beans inside, each with a healthy h/b.
Congrats on your pregnancy, whether it be with or without multiples. But you won't know for sure until your first u/s.
