How are you gals getting baby to sleep so long??

Hi Mommys'

So I noticed that most of our babies are drinking about the same amount of formula but my DD is up every two hours!! :-D  While most of your DD & DS are up every 3 or 4 hours.  Are you guys doing anything special to have your DD & DS sleep longer.  DH goes back to work tomorrow, so I'd love to be able to get an extra hour or two of sleeping between feedings.  I try to give DD the paci in between feedings but she spits it out or it falls out of her mouth.

Any advice???

Thanks

  • Does your LO finish their bottle easily? Maybe try increasing the amount of the feeding before bedtime and see if your LO eats more. They'll sleep better if they're full.

Other than that, babies have minds of their own and every baby is different. My baby went from staying up straight(no sleep, constant feeding) from 9:00 PM until 4-5 in the morning, to sleeping 4-6 hours straight for four days and is now up every hour during the night to feed. I'm not doing anything differently and I feed on demand.

I'm guessing there are so many growth spurts they have at this age, it's impossible to get them on any sleep schedule. You can't train or force a newborn to STTN.

Hang in there until they're a little older, and enjoy and take advantage of the times you do get to sleep!

  • I've had good luck with nursing (or bottle feeding for you) for 5-6 minutes, stopping, burping, making sure baby is fully awake, then repeating about 3 times. After 3 I change his diaper, then one more feeding until he falls asleep in my arms.

Your LO might be getting full quick, but left feeling uncomfortable because of too much milk too quickly, so she/he stops eating pre-emptivly. Try and draw it out a bit maybe?

  • I really wouldn't change what you are doing. If your baby is feeding more often, it may just be a stage. My son is two months tomorrow and we are finally seeing 4-5hr stretches when he sleeps. However, this does not mean those stretches will occur at night!

One thing we had to stop doing is waking baby to eat like we had to do when he was younger. We let him tell us when he's hungry now, but you should definitely stick to what works for you.

    Good luck :)

  • My son likes to eat every 2-3 hours most of the time still. Your LO is only a few weeks old, so I think her eating every 2 hours is perfectly normal.
