If you fly to the DC area a lot

We will be flying to DC for SIL wedding in August so I was looking around at flight tonight.  Right now there are flights that would work from Aus to BWI (we would rent a car no matter where we fly into) and right now they are $330.  That's a good price, right?  How far out would you book?  What is it typically to fly from AUS to BWI (we drove last time)?

Any tips/sites for finding good deals on flights?

Re: If you fly to the DC area a lot

  • yep. that's a good price. i can rarely find them (to bwi) for less than 300.

  • I think that's about how much my ticket to DC was, but I flew into a different airport (Washington National) so I'm not sure how that would affect the prices.

  • It's been a while since I last flew to DC, but I've been there several times. The best price is usually So u th we st into BWI. So ut hwe st regularly runs sales, and I think you may be able to do a little better than $330. You can sign up for their emails and wait for a sale since you have 6 months until the event.

eh. we rarely see sales for summer flights to DC and we've been doing it for the past 5 years (flying SW).

Ah, I didn't check SW, I forgot they fly into there.

  • Most of my visits were in the spring (I have a good friend there). It has been since 2009 (pre-babies) that I last made the trip, and flight prices have definitely increased since them.

When I first started visiting my friend, I remember finding flights for around $200. Those days are probably long gone. :- (

  • Yup, I would ditto the rec for SW. We used to fly into Dulles since it's so close to my parents' house, but we just can't afford it anymore (unless we use miles!). Now we fly SW to BWI and it's much cheaper.  Plus you should factor in the free luggage with SW.
